  • How Ola shifted her mindset from employee to business builder

  • What it takes to reverse-engineer your six or seven-figure dream

    00:02

    I'm your host, Kelsey Reidl.

    00:04

Each week I'll bring you conversations with the most visionary humans on this earth in hopes that you'll be able to absorb their wisdom, avoid their failures, and feel less alone on the roller coaster ride that is entrepreneurship.

    00:17

This season, I'll be chatting with creative thinkers, masterful marketers, brick and mortar shop owners, brand builders, and people just like you who have a story to share or a vision that inspires.

    00:29

If I can share one quick secret with you before we get into the episode, it's that we all have a little bit of visionary inside of us.

    00:37

You know, that spark that nudges us to pursue our full potential in this lifetime.

    00:42

But perhaps somewhere along the line, it got covered up.

    00:45

I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to explore that inner voice and access the brilliance deep down inside of you.

    00:52

    It's in you.

    00:53

    It's in all of us.

    00:54

    Let's dive in.

    00:56

Hey visionaries, welcome back to the show.

    00:58

I have a really fun episode for you today, and it's also an episode for all the entrepreneurs.

    01:03

It's going to make you think.

    01:04

It's going to make you really want to sit down and know your numbers and get your SHIT together when it comes to looking behind the scenes of what's working in the business, what can be improved, and really finding systems for success.

    01:18

    Now let me rewind.

    01:19

Back in December, I had been on mat leave for about 12 months after having my first baby.

    01:25

And I started to feel a little bit disconnected, like I hadn't been going to networking events.

    01:30

I kind of gave myself the year to just do whatever felt good and not push my comfort zone.

    01:36

I just wanted to be a present Mama.

    01:39

And then in December, I was setting some goals for the new year and I thought, OK, I really want to get back out to some networking events.

    01:45

I'm going to commit to going to one event.

    01:48

Every quarter where I meet new women, I connect with the community.

    01:52

I put myself out there in a way that I haven't done in over a year.

    01:57

And so I went to a high vibe women brunch and I met Ola and we had about 20 of us there.

    02:03

    I didn't know anyone.

    02:05

    Or maybe actually I did.

    02:06

I kind of knew a few of the women from previous engagements.

    02:10

And then I was put in a small group with Ola and a couple other women and we all just hit it off.

    02:15

It was such a reminder to me that.

    02:18

Going to events, networking, putting yourself in spaces where you're going to meet new people, be able to swap success secrets and support each other, and just be there for one another.

    02:30

It's so valuable and I'm so glad that I went to this event.

    02:34

And I'm eternally grateful that I met Ola as well, because her and I have so much in common and I knew that I wanted to bring her on the show.

    02:41

So Ola's really has a great story.

    02:44

She actually successfully ran her own manufacturing business when she was living in the UK.

    02:49

She managed a team and developed incredible people skills, but also understands the pains around growing a business.

    02:58

Rewind or Fast forward about a year ago, I don't even know what direction we're going.

    03:03

But one year ago, Ola and her family picked up, left the UK, moved to Ontario, Canada, where they knew nobody because her husband got a new job as a family doctor here, and she had to rebuild her entire network from scratch.

    03:19

And although it felt overwhelming to her, she's done such an incredible job at building new roots.

    03:25

    And really tapping into community.

    03:27

So she shares a lot of tips around how to do that.

    03:30

And then we get into a lot of the mindset challenges that entrepreneurs face.

    03:35

And ultimately she shares some of her secrets and success tips for how to reverse engineer a six figure year, a seven figure year, whatever business goal you have.

    03:45

It's about looking at how am I actually going to get there and what do I need to track in order to make this happen.

    03:51

So without further ado, you should absolutely go follow Ola on Instagram.

    03:56

    She's at Ripples Consulting.

    03:58

You can also find her at actioncoach.ca/coach slash Ola Dash Adeyemi.

    04:06

    Hopefully I said that right.

    04:07

It's been a long day of talking over here, but let's just get into this show because Ola is so fun.

    04:13

She's so magical and I cannot wait for you to hear from her.

    04:21

welcome to the Visionary Life podcast.

    04:24

You and I kind of met in a serendipitous way.

    04:27

We both showed up at a networking brunch in Kitchen, close to where we both live, and we ended up in a small group together and we had like such a fun small little group.

    04:38

I feel like the four of us, we went deep really fast and I must say it is just so.

    04:45

Comforting to meet other entrepreneurs like yourself who you can just connect with, right.

    04:50

And we had so much in common and so much more to chat about today.

    04:54

So I just want to say thank you for being here.

    04:57

Thank you very much for having me, Kelsey.

    04:59

    I'm happy to be here.

    05:00

So you actually made a major move.

    05:03

I think it was about a year ago.

    05:05

Can you just tell us a little bit about any kind of major?

    05:11

Opportunities or outcomes that came out of moving across the world slash any challenges because it's kind of crazy to like pick up your life as you know it, plant yourself in a new town in Canada and start over.

    05:25

So would love to just hear a little bit more about that cause I actually don't know about that journey at all.

    05:31

OK, I'll just put it in a quick way.

    05:35

So I lived in Aberdeen, Scotland in the United Kingdom for about.

    05:41

15 years or thereabout with my lovely family, my husband and three kids.

    05:46

And then we decided to move over to Canada.

    05:50

My husband is a family doctor, so he got a job here and we decided, you know what, we're ready for a bit of a change in our lives.

    05:59

    And so we did.

    06:01

It was exciting at first, but then we came here and I was like, Oh my God, what have I done?

    06:06

    You know, it was scary.

    06:10

I would say, you know, obviously because being a woman in business as well, at first you sort of focus on the family.

    06:17

So far everyone's OK, you'll be fine.

    06:20

You know, and then my husband was working, the kids in school, everything's going great.

    06:24

And then it was now, OK, now it's me.

    06:28

    What am I doing?

    06:29

    Where's my community?

    06:30

    Where are my friends?

    06:31

    Where's everybody?

    06:32

    You know?

    06:33

So that was a huge, huge change for me, not just around the way I was feeling at the time, but also around my community, you know?

    06:46

Back in Scotland I was running my business for over 12 years, so I've built a really strong network there, career wise, business wise, at least I would say.

    06:57

I could walk into a room a bit confident because I know a couple of people would know me or I would know someone in there.

    07:04

And then you come into a new environment and you are the new kid on the block, right?

    07:10

So I think navigating all of those feelings, yeah, it's one of the major, I would say.

    07:18

Challenges I had when I moved, but overall people have been really, really amazing and friendly and kind in Canada.

    07:26

So we love, we love the decision and we stand by it.

    07:31

Well, I think you actually called out a couple really important things there.

    07:34

    So number one, you said.

    07:36

I took care of the family first.

    07:38

Like you didn't land here day one and say, OK, like Mama's got to grow her business.

    07:43

So I think, you know, there's kind of like those foundational pillars that need to be in place before we can get out there and have growth on the mind.

    07:53

But then you mentioned too that like you have been able to start building community.

    07:57

So I'd love to hear from you because so many of our listeners, they're like.

    08:02

I live in a town where I don't know any other entrepreneurs or I feel lonely or disconnected.

    08:08

Do you have any tips based on somebody who kind of had to rebuild from scratch and find community in a network?

    08:15

What are some practical tips you could share with the listener about making those first few connections?

    08:22

OK, so the first thing I'll probably address is, you know, when people say they've moved to a new community or it could be moving career or.

    08:31

Going from corporate to business, whatever that change might look like, right?

    08:36

People say, oh, I'm starting from scratch, I would want to change that mindset a bit.

    08:43

You're not exactly starting from scratch, you're starting from experience.

    08:48

And what that means is that.

    08:51

You have been in corporate before or you have been in business before.

    08:56

You, you know these things, you're just starting it in a different circumstances.

    09:02

You know that different factors come into play now.

    09:06

So that's what you're navigating, not.

    09:09

You know, being a human being, obviously that's what business is all about.

    09:12

Being a human being and loving people, caring for the people you want to work with, that is part of you and that is still there.

    09:19

What you're navigating is different factors that are now playing, right.

    09:24

So I would say one of the.

    09:27

Probably tips or yeah, things that really helped me is the first thing is family, right?

    09:33

    Family first all the time.

    09:35

A lot of people know me.

    09:36

It's my family 1st and then my business, right?

    09:40

So I spoke to my family and I said, OK, we've just moved six months.

    09:47

    I'm going to be there.

    09:48

    Whatever you need settle you.

    09:51

I'm going to be the climb on my head, play with me, whatever.

    09:54

I am yours for those six months, right?

    09:56

And this is what I did for six full months.

    09:59

I yes, I was thinking about what I'm going to do and all that, but they had full attention.

    10:03

I was literally like a stay at home mom.

    10:06

It was tough because I'm coming from a very busy life, right?

    10:10

You know, with strategic meetings and you know, all of that, all of that stuff.

    10:14

And now I'm here doing laundry and all of that stuff.

    10:16

Not that it's not great, but it was a paradigm shift for me.

    10:20

So I did that for six months and after six months I sat the family down.

    10:24

I said, OK, fine guys, mom has been there for you guys.

    10:28

    I've done all this stuff.

    10:29

Now I want to kind of build my business and do something I would love to do.

    10:34

So I cannot be there for you 100%.

    10:38

I will still be there for you, obviously, but it wouldn't be as much as before.

    10:42

So you also need to kind of give me time to sort of build, you know, the business or the networks I'm trying to build.

    10:47

    So that's number one.

    10:48

Have a conversation with your support system because these are the people that would carry you during the hard times, during the good times, during all the different times.

    10:57

And they were like, yeah, yeah, yeahYou know, the kids actually said, OK, you could maybe not do that, maybe not do that.

    11:03

But oh, yeah, you do this, do this.

    11:05

So I I I got their priorities and where they would really love me to focus on so that if I'm not doing all the other things, I I would not have that mom guilt.

    11:14

I already know that this is not priority for them.

    11:17

    So that helped me, right.

    11:20

After I did that, the second tip I would probably say is be clear.

    11:25

On what you want to do, right.

    11:26

Clarity helps you to pivot quickly, which is what I was what really came to play for me.

    11:34

I was quite clear on what I didn't want and I was clear.

    11:39

And I'm sure, you know, we had a bit of chat around this when we met at the brunch and I was clear around what I want.

    11:44

So it wasn't about working with a client that, yeah, I'll pay you this money and I want you to give me 24/7.

    11:51

That's not going to happen because I'm clear.

    11:54

About what I want, you know, it wasn't just about the money for me, it was about impact.

    11:57

It was about fulfillment for myself as well.

    12:00

So that's number two, that clarity that you need to get around what you want to do or how you want to go about it.

    12:06

And then #3, obviously when you get clarity, you might not know everything from get go.

    12:12

This is where you get support and help and you know, build community.

    12:15

#3 is bringing me to the building community and I think this is how we connected as well because I think at that time.

    12:23

My main focus was, yes, I want to have clients, I want to build more clients, I want to make my money.

    12:29

But my focus was around building community because I know that relationships, well, businesses, right.

    12:36

So that was sort of and is still sort of my focus.

    12:41

I really want to build some real tangible relationships that is not just about.

    12:48

Business relationships, but about what what we're doing right now, you know, people who can pour into me and people I can pour into and I'm talking value, I'm talking impact, I'm talking high level thinking, right.

    13:00

So that would be the third one for me, building that community and how did I go about that?

    13:06

Obviously I started putting myself out there.

    13:08

    It was a bit uncomfortable.

    13:10

I don't know everyone in the room, but I'm going there and it's not about what I want to get.

    13:16

It's what about, it's about learning, you know, having that teachable spirit that I'm going into this room or this meeting and I just want to know more about Kelsey.

    13:25

I want to know more about Kim.

    13:27

I want to know more about Ade.

    13:28

And you know, that was it for me.

    13:30

And This is why I started attending those events, those brunches, just to, you know, get visibility and get to know people.

    13:39

And I think it's probably one of the.

    13:42

Best decisions I've made because in that short while, Kelsey, I have met some incredible people who honestly I've learned a lot from.

    13:53

And you know, part of that is the wave community that I joined.

    13:58

You know it, you know when going on a call and you just say, oh, I'm going to see Emily today and it's it's so.

    14:05

    It's good.

    14:06

It's a good feeling when you feel like you're not alone and you know you're talking to some like-minded business owners as well who probably have the same struggles as as you and you know you're all navigating together.

    14:17

So that has really, really kind of helped me and grounded me as well.

    14:22

And obviously out with the business community, I'm also building all the community like friendships like church, like you know all all the other areas of my life.

    14:30

So those would kind of be the three, yeah tips I would.

    14:34

I would give anyone that is trying to to pivot.

    14:36

    Yeah, that's so cool.

    14:38

And I think a couple things that I really took away from what you just shared is like #1 be so clear about why you're doing this and like, you know, not what am I trying to get, but like, how do I want to contribute to this new community and to keep that in mind when you walk into a room.

    14:56

Where you know nobody, I think the tendency is like, I just have to talk and make conversation.

    15:02

And it's like, no, no, no, you just have to go in with an open mindset, be curious, be generous.

    15:10

And it's like I always picture most people when they attend a networking event, they think like the spotlight is on them and it's like, no, no, point it at everybody else.

    15:20

And you don't have to be anyone you're not.

    15:22

You don't have to be in.

    15:24

    What is the quote?

    15:25

You don't have to be interesting.

    15:26

    You have to be interested.

    15:29

And I keep that mentality in mind anytime I walk into a room where I'm like, this is so scary.

    15:35

    I don't know a soul.

    15:36

And it's like, I just have to ask a couple questions.

    15:40

    Absolutely.

    15:44

It's that power of listening, isn't it, that we need to cultivate?

    15:49

Just just hear people talk and listen to people.

    15:53

    Absolutely.

    15:54

And I'm curious for you, like, how do you, and this might be a weird question, cause I know you are someone who's very much a proponent of like knowing your business metrics and knowing your numbers and we're gonna get there shortly in the conversation.

    16:10

But when you think about relationships, how do you measure the return on investment of spending time going to a brunch or spending a day at a conference?

    16:21

Or is it not really about that?

    16:23

It's more so just like trust that if you put yourself out there, you will get a lot of incredible momentum back.

    16:33

But like, don't do it with like, I need to grow by 100 new clients by going to this event.

    16:39

Hey Visionary, I want to interrupt this episode to share a little bit more about one-on-one coaching.

    16:45

I work with clients who want to stay on top of the latest marketing trends, who want to bring more ease into their marketing funnel, or just build a marketing funnel in the 1st place cause maybe you don't have one yet and ultimately take the effort and overwhelm out of your marketing plan.

    17:02

I know your energy is limited and you just want someone to tell you what to do.

    17:07

    Should you be on threads?

    17:09

Should you be creating on TikTok?

    17:11

How do you grow an e-mail list?

    17:12

    What does SEO mean anyways?

    17:15

This is why Ioffer private one-on-one business and marketing coaching for business owners like you who need help with their marketing strategy.

Christina landed a six-figure consulting contract.

    17:56

    Kelseyreidell.com/privatecoaching.

    18:24

    Now back to the episode.

    18:27

    Yeah.

    18:27

So for me, there are two things, right?

    18:29

I there, there's some events I go with KPIs, right?

    18:33

    Because I I I like to measure.

    18:36

    Yeah.

    18:36

And say if I'm going to this event, I want to have two business meetings.

    18:41

I would like to meet someone from construction or just, you know, whatever that might look like.

    18:46

So that for me, it's about time is money.

    18:49

    Time is.

    18:50

Or more like invested time, not just time, right?

    18:54

So those, they're those events that I know this is my mission for going for that event.

    18:59

But there's some events which is probably more of the type of event I'm going to now.

    19:05

    It's more around.

    19:07

    I don't know what I don't know.

    19:09

So I want to learn, right?

    19:12

For me being in a new community.

    19:16

    I don't know what I don't know.

    19:17

I want to learn about the community.

    19:19

I want to learn what makes them happy, what kind of jokes are they?

    19:23

    So it, you know, having.

    19:24

So in a way, those are sort of KPIs as well, right?

    19:28

So for me, I don't see it as, OK, how do you measure the amount of time you put into that?

    19:34

Because relationships, you never know where they can grow.

    19:37

I can meet you right off now, Kelsey, and you you're like, you know what?

    19:41

There's something about you all that I'm happy to recommend you to my community.

    19:45

    Great.

    19:45

And there's some, it'll take probably about six months nurturing, which you know already in marketing, right, to talk to them and get them to like no one trusts you before, you know.

    19:56

So for me it's around understanding again, why am I going for this particular event?

    20:02

This event is about visibility for me.

    20:04

So I'm going to make sure when I go into that room, if there is a question or something, I'm going to speak.

    20:10

    Oh, love it.

    20:11

    Yeah.

    20:12

Having a clear understanding of what am I going to be doing at this event.

    20:17

And that's why some people feel, oh, I've been to all these events and nothing is happening.

    20:22

Yeah, but do you have targets?

    20:24

    Do you?

    20:25

Why are you doing it right and all?

    20:28

So there's some events I go, I just maybe I'm going with some friends.

    20:32

I'm just going for the vibe.

    20:34

So even if I don't get anything from you, I know that I just went for the vibe and just to get to know people and just have fun, right.

    20:41

And I'm talking business events and business meetings now, right.

    20:45

But the the summary of of it is understanding why am I going to this particular event.

    20:52

Sometimes I've been in events where.

    20:55

    It's so technical, right?

    20:56

    Like tech, tech summits, right?

    20:59

    And I'm not full tech.

    21:01

I'm a bit of a tech geek, but I'm not like full spectrum tech and I feel so lost there.

    21:06

But why I went there is I really want to understand this whole tech thing and how I can really use it to support my business.

    21:14

And so it's for me, it's all about learning, right?

    21:17

So having that understanding of why am I going to this event, I think it's very important and.

    21:25

It can help you to quickly measure that return on investment because you you you set the target, if you get what I mean, and then you set the benchmark or why you're going into it.

    21:34

So that that's what I think.

    21:36

    That's so important.

    21:38

    And yeah, I love that.

    21:39

Like sometimes I go to an event because I want to learn.

    21:42

Sometimes I want to go to an event because I want to meet new people who could potentially turn into clients.

    21:48

Sometimes I go because I just want to feel inspired.

    21:51

I want to like listen to guest speakers and hear from cool entrepreneurs.

    21:55

And maybe shake a few hands and be in good energy.

    21:58

And I leave feeling like, OK, I'm rejuvenated to go do what I need to do.

    22:03

    Yeah.

    22:03

And so I think it's really important to, like, always ask yourself, like, what's my intention out of this?

    22:08

Because it's not always get clients, get money in the bank account, right?

    22:13

    Yes.

    22:14

    Amazing.

    22:15

So you mentioned the word KPIs.

    22:18

I know that tracking is something that you're really good at mentoring your clients to do, making sure you know your business numbers.

    22:25

Now a lot of our listeners, they're newer to business and they're not tracking anything.

    22:30

That means they're not tracking the money coming through, the expenses.

    22:34

They're not tracking how much their business is growing from a website standpoint or their social media, anything of that nature.

    22:42

So could you kind of take us back to basics?

    22:45

Explain the importance of knowing your numbers and tracking and setting up things like KPIs.

    22:52

OK, so in business, knowing your numbers or tracking is almost like the lifeline of the business.

    23:01

It keeps us knowing why we're doing what we're doing or what we're doing.

    23:07

Is it working or is it not right?

    23:09

    So KPIs obviously.

    23:11

For people who don't know is key performance indicators, right.

    23:16

So what for anyone in business, even if they're starting off or you know, you'll be shocked that there's some people who's been in business for years and they're still not tracking it, maybe not tracking it, but maybe not tracking it well enough, right.

    23:29

So it's around knowing what activities do we need to do that brings about a certain result.

    23:37

You see things like virality, for example, or you know, oh gosh, something happened and boom, I made 10 grand or something.

    23:46

But then when you're asked, OK, Kelsey, let's replicate that, it goes like, um, I'm not sure how to replicate that.

    23:54

So when we track, it helps us to replicate things.

    23:57

It helps us to do things over and over again.

    23:59

    And it's tied into.

    24:01

How well you write down your processes.

    24:03

So if you're doing something, it could be an event, it could be marketing, whatever it is, try to write the steps down so that if you have to do it again, it becomes a bit easier for you to redo it or someone else to do it on your behalf because you have everything.

    24:18

So what are we tracking in business?

    24:20

A lot of people, well, a lot of business owners, we want more customers, don't we?

    24:26

We want more revenue, don't we?

    24:28

And we want more profit, don't we?

    24:30

So those are the things we focus on.

    24:32

I want customers that want to move from 5 customers to 15 customers or whatever that looks like.

    24:38

But this things I have mentioned are consequences of something happening first.

    24:45

And it is that something happening first that we need to track, right.

    24:49

So we're talking of your lead generation times your conversion rate.

    24:53

If you are able to track that and know it to a T, your customers would happen.

    24:58

It's not magic, it's just going to happen.

    25:01

Where am I getting my leads?

    25:03

    Who are they?

    25:04

You know, and how, what's my conversion rate?

    25:06

    How am I converting them?

    25:08

    Conversion rate also means the.

    25:11

The number of people maybe you speak to versus the people that eventually become clients.

    25:17

So if for every four people I have, I convert one person, then you're looking at about a 25% conversion rate, right?

    25:25

So that means if you multiply that, you would be able to understand what your conversion rate is and you would know how many customers you would get.

    25:33

    So usually I use a.

    25:37

What you call a wallpaper or a whiteboard to explain this.

    25:40

So I'm trying to explain it without, you know, the visual.

    25:43

    Yeah.

    25:43

Anyway, so your lead generation times your conversion rates gives you your number of customers.

    25:48

Then if we look at, OK, fine, I've got 1000 customers.

    25:52

    Yay.

    25:52

Now how much are they spending average spend versus the number of transactions?

    25:59

How many times are they coming back?

    26:02

    Right.

    26:02

    So.

    26:04

    Not to complicate things.

    26:05

If I've got one client who's spending $100 with me in a year and the person is spending it once, then I get 100, right?

    26:13

But if I say I've got one client, they spend $100 with me, but if I can increase it for them to spend $200 with me and instead of coming once, they come twice that.

    26:25

    I've made $100 more.

    26:27

So that activity of thinking about how can they spend more with me, how can they come back more, it eventually gives you your revenue.

    26:35

The revenue would happen if you focus on those activity, right.

    26:40

So people, when we say measure your numbers and all, they think it's about, it's not just the math, if you get what I mean, it's also it's about the activity that we need to do to then get the revenue.

    26:53

Some clients tell me, what's your goal for Q2, for example?

    26:58

Oh yeah, I want to move to 200K.

    27:00

    That's great.

    27:00

    OK, so how?

    27:02

You know, when I speak to a couple of clients, I go for networking.

    27:06

    Yeah, that's great.

    27:07

    But how?

    27:08

    Let's break it down.

    27:09

So when we're breaking it down, this is when we look at those numbers.

    27:12

    OK.

    27:13

This is your high ticket, you know your your product or your services $1000.

    27:18

    Fantastic.

    27:19

How many of that do you need to sell to make your revenue?

    27:22

I need to sell times 10 or five.

    27:24

OK, what if instead of selling hundred of that, you sell 50 of that, but get your clients to do twice, do you get?

    27:32

So this is the kind of things we're trying to track and then obviously that.

    27:36

Increases your revenue and then obviously your profit margin, whether you want to do 25% or 30%, I usually tell clients between 2530%, but it depends on the product or the service you're giving.

    27:47

And if you're measuring that a bit as well, then obviously your overall profit increases as well.

    27:52

So these are the kind of, I would say in a nutshell, the metrics, the numbers you need to focus on in business that would help you grow revenue.

    28:01

Which is actually incredibly empowering, right?

    28:04

Because if you're saying, so say we're on track for like a six figure year, like.

    28:11

And maybe we've been growing, but to be able to actually reverse engineer the plan so that we can say we think based on XY and Z that in 2025 the business is finally going to generate $100,000 is really empowering to say I can actually plot the steps to get there instead of just.

    28:34

You know, hoping as a strategy, right?

    28:37

Which, you know, it's great to hold the belief, but then also to have the structured plan in place and to know that you kind of have all of your plans in place.

    28:47

So if a doesn't work out, then we can try this to increase the likelihood that, yeah, that six-figure strategy, it happens and it's possible, right?

    28:57

    Absolutely.

    28:58

And then when it happens, guess what?

    29:00

We keep doing what we're doing, then we can replicate it and you as a business owner can even step back and someone else can replicate it cause there's a process there.

    29:09

    We like that.

    29:11

I know getting there is, you know, some work, some I think is repetitive tasks that you have to do.

    29:18

But honestly it's a sweet, sweet spot to be when you kind of understand that and and get that and it's just.

    29:24

    Changing little things.

    29:26

    It's not.

    29:26

I don't believe in, oh, let's do this massive thing and, you know, make you get yourself overwhelmed.

    29:31

No, it's just the little baby steps and the planning and the being deliberate that, you know, gets you that big results.

    29:38

Based on all the clients that you've worked with or even just the the people you've interacted with over the course of your consulting career, why do you think that so many business owners are resistant?

    29:51

    To tracking.

    29:52

Why do we avoid it, ignore it, maybe hear from you that it's important, but then we don't prioritize it.

    30:00

    Like why?

    30:01

    Why is this not happening?

    30:04

Well, I would say the first thing is people don't know what they don't know.

    30:08

    OK, fair enough.

    30:08

    Yeah.

    30:09

YeahI know Ola and Kelsey have this podcast and they said something about that, but I don't know what they're saying, right.

    30:16

    So that's probably number one.

    30:18

And this is where you need to sort of, you know, get help and we'll get trained or get people to help you to kind of navigate all that understanding.

    30:27

    So that's one.

    30:28

People don't know what they don't know.

    30:29

    That's one.

    30:30

    Then #2 is.

    30:31

Some people are genuinely, they will listen to this and like, honestly, I just want to track my number now.

    30:36

I want to be dedicated at it.

    30:37

I want to be good at it.

    30:39

But they cannot do it by themselves.

    30:42

Business owners, CEOs, visionaries, leaders, whatever that looks like, we've got a lot in our brains, right?

    30:48

    We're creatives.

    30:50

That's the way I see it as well, because we're building and creating this amazing business and empire.

    30:55

So there is a lot we're thinking about, right?

    30:58

    So having.

    30:59

That mindset to focus on that one thing I'm going to track, I'm going to, it could be a lot.

    31:04

Some people start on this is good and maybe 3-5, six months down the line, it kind of trickles down a bit, right.

    31:13

But what I always tell clients is if you feel that those tracking is something you're really good at and you've got, you know, it gives you high energy.

    31:23

    By all means, do it.

    31:24

Come on, let's get it done.

    31:26

But if you feel, you know what, I really want to do it, but I'll just enjoy it, outsource it, get someone else to do it.

    31:33

But you get someone else to do, but you're clear on what you're telling the person to do.

    31:38

For me, clarity is always very key in every aspect of not just life, but business as well.

    31:44

If I tell you, Kelsey, I want us to track.

    31:47

Leads on this podcast, you know exactly what we're tracking, right?

    31:51

I did not say, yeah, let's just improve the podcast.

    31:55

That's a bit vague, but I'm giving you clear instructions.

    31:57

People fly when they have those clear instructions.

    32:00

So even if you're going to outsource it, be very clear on what you're telling the agency or whatever person is going to help you to track it.

    32:09

So those are the two things I would say maybe.

    32:12

Holds people back the fact that they don't know what they don't know.

    32:15

And then the second thing is they're probably a bit overwhelmed about doing the actual work, so, you know, they can outsource it, right?

    32:22

It reminds me of a concept that I know you've talked about on your Instagram a few times that.

    32:29

The real challenge isn't anything external.

    32:32

    It's often internal, right?

    32:34

Like the real challenge isn't that there's not enough information on how to track your numbers or what a KPI is.

    32:42

    Like that's all out there.

    32:44

But oftentimes there's it's like a resistance that comes up anytime we have to embark on a journey that's new and that is unknown or uncomfortable and.

    32:55

It feels like when we run businesses every single day, there's something that comes into our orbit that's like, uh, I didn't know I signed up for that or Oh my gosh, this is hard.

    33:05

Yes, I think it's the mindset as well, you know, and there's a lot of work that needs to be done on the mindset as well to business owners know what they want.

    33:16

They know the life they want to build.

    33:17

It's beautiful sometimes when you even hear them, oh, I want to leave my corporate job.

    33:21

This is what I want to do.

    33:22

I want to empower young girls, you know, you get goosebumps.

    33:26

    listening to all these things.

    33:27

But sometimes it's the, OK, what's the next step?

    33:30

What's step four, step five, step six?

    33:32

That's where it becomes a bit too much.

    33:36

And that, you know, that power of internal, you just need to kind of think a bit and what do I really want?

    33:42

    Why do I want it?

    33:44

Who's going to help me get there?

    33:46

And then let's start working, right?

    33:49

So yeah, a lot of mindset work needs to be done around that too.

    33:53

    Yeah.

    33:54

When a client comes to you, I'm so curious like how much of the work that needs to be done is mindset and a mental shift and how much is strategic and like they need your templates tools.

    34:10

I know you help with both, but I'm so curious like what you've identified as like the real objective in hitting that next goal or hitting that next big leap.

    34:23

Honestly, you ask this question, it's like you, you know exactly what I go through without you.

    34:30

So a lot of it's amazing.

    34:33

The businesses I've spoken to, it's my it's, I would say it's mainly mindset, really.

    34:38

    That's so crazy.

    34:39

    People have some amazing ideas.

    34:41

They know what they want to do.

    34:42

You almost think you know it more than I do even, but it's just that something blocking them or they cannot see it.

    34:51

And that's where I come in to kind of help them.

    34:53

You know, I focus more around the business coaching side of things, you know, getting into that, building the business and which is why, which is one of the reasons why I went into business coaching and just helping businesses because I also want to sort of be that person I wish I had.

    35:12

In those my 14 years of running a business and thinking it's alone and struggling and the burnout and uh, that story for another day.

    35:20

So and I'm here to say you've got that dream, you've got that vision.

    35:24

    It's valid 100%.

    35:26

You just need someone holding your hand and telling you that's OK.

    35:30

    And that's why I always tell myself I'm a G PS:.

    35:32

    What does a GPS do?

    35:34

You put in the address, you know exactly where you're going, right, Kelsey?

    35:37

    But.

    35:38

The GPS is there to tell you there's a roadblock there, so you to reroute you.

    35:43

Oh no, there's a storm coming there.

    35:45

It will reroute and it just helps you to get there maybe a bit quicker than you would normally take, right.

    35:51

And that's the whole idea of having someone to support you and help you.

    35:55

One of the things we also do for clients who work with me is because I just tend to work with a lot of women in business, you know, there's a strong pull to that area, so.

    36:07

I, you know, speaking to clients and you realize there's a lot of mindset work that needs to be done.

    36:13

So I partner with an empowerment coach who.

    36:17

So every one-to-one client with me has an hour a month with Dorothy.

    36:22

    That's her name.

    36:23

    Shout out to Dorothy.

    36:25

So they speak to her, you know, she kind of helps them with mindset and just, you know, empowerment and overall.

    36:33

Getting that block away and then honestly, they come back to me and it's like, boom, let's go.

    36:38

And it's great because I I realized that gap.

    36:42

Now I can support, but I also I'm very clear on what I want to do.

    36:47

I know my area of strength.

    36:49

Yeah, I was like, OK, I need someone that would kind of take it a step further.

    36:53

And that's where she plugs into.

    36:55

And the work that we do with the clients.

    36:57

So they've got that support there.

    36:59

And then I'm here telling them, OK, let's do this numbers or let's grow the team or let's, you know, expand the product line or you know, that kind of stuff.

    37:07

So that's, that's the way both sort of work.

    37:09

So yes, there's a lot around mind center, mindset empowerment.

    37:14

Yeah, it's such a good reminder and sometimes it's hard to tell someone who's like.

    37:19

Kelce or Ola, just give me the blueprint to success.

    37:22

But then they're so limited in the way they think.

    37:25

They kind of block themselves from actually putting themselves out there and they shut everything down before it gets good.

    37:33

And it's like, oh wait, like you have the blueprint for success, but you have to work through the mindset blocks, the upper limits you have on yourself, and the personal challenges that affect the professional growth, which is.

    37:48

You know, such an interesting conversation and something that I think at every level of business we always have to be asking ourselves, like, where am I blocking myself?

    37:56

Because I can only be successful as my limited self.

    38:01

    And we're all limited, right?

    38:03

Like, you know, nobody's like immune to feelings of imposter syndrome or lacking belief or just not knowing what's next and so.

    38:14

We have to be so self-aware as entrepreneurs.

    38:18

    Absolutely.

    38:18

    I I couldn't agree more.

    38:20

    It's you you would.

    38:21

Yeah, that mindset takes a it plays a very high role in how successful you get or how far you get to, you knowAnd one of the things we also tell clients is I I also want clients to work more around their personal goals first.

    38:38

What do you want as Kelsey?

    38:40

What does life look like for you?

    38:42

And then, you know, they paint that picture and then you build your business goals around it because your business is supposed to give you the life that you want.

    38:50

It's not the other way around.

    38:51

You don't give the business the life that the business wants.

    38:54

It's this is what I want in life and I the business or my corporate job or whatever it is I'm doing should be able to get me that life that I want.

    39:04

So that's how we kind of change the way people think, right?

    39:08

    So.

    39:09

Yeah, which is a challenging conversation sometimes, I think for female entrepreneurs, specifically mothers too.

    39:17

Like we live in this culture where business is often associated with more, more growth, growth, growth.

    39:24

And to sit back and to ask like, well, what do I want in this season?

    39:29

How can the business support me during these critical years?

    39:34

And sometimes it's like, oh wait, I don't want more.

    39:36

I don't want to grow, which is like a no, no statement in entrepreneurship.

    39:41

And just saying I'm good with my two day work week and I want to continue to spend time with the fit.

    39:47

So yeah, I think that's such a valuable reminder.

    39:50

Like business is meant to support the life you want.

    39:54

Business is not growth at all costs.

    39:56

Create, create 24/7 hustle, hustle, which is sometimes what we assume we're supposed to do.

    40:02

Yeah, I think it's, yeah, sort of wired into us that, yeah, this is how it should look like.

    40:07

But no, if this is, you know, where you're at right now for people listening is what you want to do.

    40:14

What you probably need to focus on is, OK, just making myself more efficient in that space and making the business run well and having time for my family.

    40:22

    And that's OK.

    40:23

Own that thing, own it, be proud of it and do great.

    40:27

You will be surprised that you're probably at a better work-life balance than someone.

    40:32

just, you know, hustling, grinding and grinding and grinding.

    40:35

And really, what's the point of that?

    40:38

I've gone through all that, been majorly burnt out.

    40:40

And I think I speak from that space as well, that it's about what do I want?

    40:46

    Yes.

    40:47

And I build my business goals around it.

    40:49

And then I can be even 100% there for myself, for my clients, for my family, is a much better place to be.

    40:57

    Yeah.

    40:57

    That's beautiful.

    40:59

Now,I would love to know, how do you stay motivated on the hard days, on the days that don't go as planned, when you have a month that you're like, wait a second, I thought, you know, we had more revenue coming into the business.

    41:12

Like when things don't go according to plan, which we know it's often, right?

    41:17

    How do you stay motivated?

    41:18

How do you stay the course, prevent yourself from giving it all up?

    41:24

    I'm curious to hear.

    41:27

Sometimes I cry, as you know, Kelsey.

    41:31

I'm just going to be 100% honest.

    41:32

But yeah, let me just be real.

    41:34

So you know, I think there are different days, different, different things that occur.

    41:44

So there are times when I I listen to music a lot.

    41:49

    It helps me.

    41:51

For me, music does it for me, especially music that has.

    41:55

Words that would really speak to me, empower me, lift me up and all that.

    42:00

And you know, I do that a lot and I just have that in background.

    42:03

Sometimes it can be quiet, sometimes I'm just going to blast it out.

    42:08

And also, I've got people I speak to as well.

    42:11

I you cannot do it alone.

    42:13

You just know there is nobody that is successful that has done it by themselves.

    42:18

    It's not possible.

    42:19

So I've got a life coach, I've got a business coach.

    42:22

Believe me, I've also got a business coach and I've got a spiritual coach, which, you know, it's like in the Christian world, I'm a Christian.

    42:28

So I've got all three of them.

    42:30

So there are times where I have this.

    42:32

This is just not working and you know, I'm speaking to these people booking appointment and by the time you speak to them, you find some sort of alignment in, you know, maybe the advice or what they want you to do or you know, things like that.

    42:47

    It's it's it's really powerful and that's how I help myself.

    42:52

That's one another thing I do is.

    42:55

I if say I'm struggling with, I don't know, maybe team team for example, this team member is just doing my head in or something.

    43:05

I go learn because the way I see it is if I'm struggling with a particular thing, I look inward first before I look outward.

    43:13

I'm not just going to say, oh, this person is not pulling their weight or blah blah blah.

    43:17

I look at it like, what could I have done better?

    43:19

What can I do to help that person to do better?

    43:23

Or what could I have done better to improve my sales or whatever area that I feel a bit flat, right?

    43:31

And then I I look, OK, maybe I don't know enough about that thing.

    43:36

And then I go learn about it because I cannot waste emotions on what I cannot control.

    43:43

I used to be that person beating myself up.

    43:46

    I'm not.

    43:47

    I'm just down.

    43:48

I just, you know, I was my greatest critic.

    43:50

But I look it up about it.

    43:51

Is this something I can control?

    43:53

    Not exactly.

    43:54

    OK.

    43:55

I'm not going to waste my emotion on that.

    43:56

    What can I control?

    43:58

    Maybe doing better.

    43:59

    Learning more.

    44:00

    Sleeping.

    44:01

    Go rest, right?

    44:02

You've been working a few hours straight.

    44:06

    Go take a break.

    44:07

    Take a walk.

    44:08

    Watch your movie.

    44:09

    You know, I.

    44:10

Focus or lean a bit more onto the things I can control.

    44:13

And by the time I do that, sometimes it's just 30-40 minutes.

    44:17

Honestly, it's not nothing massive, you know, then I can.

    44:21

And then I've also sort of not made a list, but I'm a bit conscious about things that trigger me to make me feel low or, you know, less motivated and stuff.

    44:34

I don't go into some rooms because, you knowIf there are people that just drain my energy or just they're not speaking life into me or they're just not on that same level, maybe I go there like, OK, this is not the right place for me.

    44:46

    I'm not going back there.

    44:47

So I it comes back to clarity, right?

    44:49

I need to be clear on, I need to be clear on, oops, sorry about that.

    44:54

I need to be clear on what are those things that really help me, that pull me up that.

    45:01

Yeah, you know, and then having community also helps with that motivation.

    45:06

And I come back to the way for me, I know you didn't tell me to say this, but you have no clue how much that has helped.

    45:12

And sometimes I'm just like, I'm just not making the headway with all the calls I'm making today.

    45:18

And you know, I get on the call and we're talking around how to improve our marketing on how we position ourselves.

    45:25

    There you go.

    45:26

    And I'm listening to people.

    45:27

So I'm like, that's exactly what I was going through.

    45:30

And I'm like, I'm not alone in this.

    45:32

    And that helps me.

    45:33

So listening to other people as well and maybe getting their experiences, even listening to podcasts, you know, and things like that really, really help me.

    45:43

And just, I listen to a podcast, maybe on the topic I want, I put it in the podcast and it's, I'm just listening to it and I find myself laughing.

    45:51

Oh my God, no, she didn't, you know, and things like that.

    45:54

    And that's it.

    45:55

So you just need to be.

    45:58

Understand those things that maybe draw your energy down, pull you down, drain you and, you know, be be mindful of those things and do not put yourself in those sort of situations.

    46:11

There's some people, they go to some meetings, great meeting, but maybe people who just intimidate, you know, like, oh, I've got this business, I've got everything going on.

    46:20

    The kids are fine.

    46:22

    Everyone's amazing.

    46:23

And you go, am I failing?

    46:24

    You know, I.

    46:26

Would probably move a step back till I figure myself out and and then I can go back into those rooms when, you know, kind of high energy type thing.

    46:35

So, so great, incredible reminders for how to stay the course even when times get tough.

    46:42

I definitely have a lot of those same rituals anytime I need them to pull out of my back pocket, so.

    46:49

Ola, if people like what they're hearing from you, if they would like to connect with you, potentially hire you as a coach because you offer some incredible services, where are the best places for them to come find you?

    47:02

OK, so you can find me on Instagram cause I do both consulting and coaching.

    47:07

More of coaching is what I do, but you'll find me on Instagram at Ripples Consulting.

    47:15

My coaching practice is Action Coach Alpha, but I'm mainly on Ripple's consulting platform where you would find yeah, you get to know me.

    47:24

I see all stuff on there.

    47:26

And then also I've got a website which is an Action Coach website.

    47:30

You just Google Ola OLA Adeyemi ADEYEMI Action Coach on Google and it will take you to my website.

    47:39

And obviously my e-mail as well.

    47:41

My e-mail is my full name, Ola Adeyemi at actioncoach.com and I will be more than happy to connect.

    47:48

    Yeah, amazing.

    47:49

We will link those in the show notes for easy access and we appreciate you diving into all sorts of topics today, but just love how a lot of what we talked about comes back to the mindset.

    48:01

Making sure that you have the tools in place to stay the course when times get tough, but also have the system so that business doesn't have to be so sporadic and chaotic.

    48:10

So we really, really appreciate you sharing your wisdom and your knowledge today and we wish you all of the best.
