277 Taking The Leap Into Entrepreneurship: The Greatest Adventure Of Your Life!

Ready to embark on the greatest adventure of your entire life?

If so, this is the blog for you.

Choosing to start your own business means that you’re choosing to embark on the greatest adventure of your entire life.

Notice how I didn’t say, it will be the greatest vacation of your life.

But rather,

The greatest adventure.

Because by definition, adventures mean there are a lot of unknowns, unexpected moments, and the potential for sheer chaos.

Every day is a new adventure when you take the leap into running a business. You never know what's going to happen, and you have to be prepared for anything.

You have to be fearless and always ready to take on whatever comes your way.

It can be exciting and frustrating all at the same time, but it's definitely never boring.

And I don't know about you, but I am willing to embrace a life of excitement rather than one that bores me to death and sucks my soul dry.

In this episode, Kelsey chats about:

  • Embracing the life of excitement and uncertainty

  • Celebrating the wins when things aren’t going well

  • What gets you to the point of feeling like you can continue this adventure

  • How to step into an entrepreneurial mindset

  • You're listening to the visionary life podcast. I'm your host, Kelsey Reidl.

Each week, I'll bring you conversations with the most visionary humans on this earth, in hopes that you'll be able to absorb their wisdom, avoid their failures and feel less alone on the roller coaster ride that is entrepreneurship. This season, I'll be chatting with creative thinkers, masterful marketers, brick and mortar shop owners, brand builders, and people just like you who have a story to share or a vision that inspires.

If I can share one quick secret with you before we get into the episode. It's that we all have a little bit of visionary inside of us, you know, that spark that nudges us to pursue our full potential in this lifetime. But perhaps somewhere along the line, it got covered up, I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to explore that inner voice and access the brilliance deep down inside of you. It's in you, it's in all of us.

Let's dive in. Hey, visionaries. Welcome back to a quick solo episode of the pod. I want to talk today about the adventure of starting a business. And I'm gonna use that word very intentionally. Because choosing to start your own business means that you are saying yes to the greatest adventure of your entire life. I really do believe that.

And notice how I'm not saying it's going to be the greatest vacation of your life, or the greatest trip of your life. It is an adventure. And I say that word very consciously because adventures are filled with unknowns, they are filled with unexpected moments, they are filled with the potential for chaos, for complete disruption of what you thought the plan was going to be.

And I don't know if you're anything like me, but I love thinking about adventurous things that I can do. And I love going to the movie theater to watch somebody's adventure summiting Everest, or climbing the Dawn Wall as a rock climber without ropes. There is something so cool about people who are willing to embrace that not everything in life goes according to plan.

And still do it anyways, if you wanted to cycle in Italy, fully supported with wine stops and lunch stops. And all the routes that you're doing are guided by a tour guide. That's less of an adventure, I would say. But business is more like the summiting of Everest, there might be snowstorms, you might run out of oxygen, you might need more sleep one day, you might hurt your ankle and have to take a couple days off. There are so many unknowns and unpredictable items that come up. And every day is truly a new adventure when you take the leap into running a business. And I say this after about seven years of running my own business.

So I don't know if anyone can escape this. But I've certainly felt like every day was an adventure. You never know what's going to happen. You have to be prepared for anything. You have to be fearless and ready for whatever comes your way. And it can be exciting and frustrating all at the same time. But it's definitely never boring. And I don't know about you, but I'm willing to embrace the life of excitement and uncertainty.

Rather than staying still in a life that bores me to death, which I felt in my last job at least for the nine to five portion of my Monday to Friday, my life was boring me to death. And I'm willing to embrace a life of excitement and adventure rather than staying inside of a life that sucks my soul dry I just couldn't do it anymore. And if I desired a life of certainty, predictability, comfort that that would be okay.

But I wouldn't be here today building out the visionary life brand building out the visionary method, spreading my message around marketing and how it can be fun. I wouldn't be here building a platform showing up day after day. Five years of doing this podcast almost 300 Episode 1000s of emails sent 1000s and 1000s of social media posts hundreds and hundreds of blogs. Hundreds of trainings given at places like Google and Salesforce and to the female startup club and to private masterminds. I've just been been showing up and continuing to summit and it hasn't been easy. And it's taken a lot of time out of my life. It's taken a lot of perseverance, but I love it.

I love the adventure, I crave the adventure. And I'm also an adventurous person in my personal life. So I really do stand by this point that starting a business is the greatest adventure of your life. You know, I've done 70 Kilometer 100 Kilometer bike races through cold weather, hail storms, and that's not been easy. That's taken time that's taken perseverance. But I survived it and I got to the finish line. I've Portage through Algonquin Park, with a heavy ass canoe on my back. I've done 3000 meters of a portage Portage with hundreds of meters of elevation. been sweating through all my clothes with a backpack on my back as well. That has not been easy. That takes time. It takes perseverance. But what did we get on the other side, we got a lake that nobody else will ever see in their lifetime. I've spent hours hiking up some of the biggest mountains in Switzerland when I lived there.

One time in the dark, three or four hours with a snowboard on my back with one little measly headlamp, all so that I could spend 10 minutes snowboarding down. And that was not easy. That took time that took perseverance. But was it worth it? Hell yeah. Adventures are not easy. They do take time they do take perseverance. And this is business. If you want the easy path, if you want the quick hack to success if you want, you know, an opportunity that you can just coast through and sit back and barely lift a finger and you know, swing in that hammock on that beach in Mexico with toes or with your toes in the sand, then don't choose this path. I don't know who's selling that dream, but it's not probable.

But if you want more if you want to tap into your potential choose the path of entrepreneurship. For me being an entrepreneur means taking risks, embracing change, never giving up. And I'm totally cool with that I train my mindset to be okay with that stuff. Because otherwise I wouldn't be here. And the journey for me and for so many of you listening I know has been full of highs and lows. But we get better at navigating the waves. And as my friend Emily says, we become skillful sailors, we ride these waves with grace. And we get better at navigating the depths. And honestly, there's nothing quite like the rush of being able to create anything you can dream of when you start a business without needing to ask for permission from your boss or from your manager, because you are the damn boss. So yeah, that's amazing to put yourself in that seat. But just know that it also comes with its challenges. When you're the boss, you deal with a lot of stress.

You deal with bad employees, you deal with people leaving abruptly or saying a horrible thing about your company. And you carry a lot of responsibility that can be mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally challenging. So if you feel like your adventure, is just not going well right now, just know that that's okay. Give yourself some grace. Ask yourself what you need. And on the other side, when things are going well celebrate your wins, give yourself employee of the month, take yourself out to a celebratory dinner, give yourself a bonus in cash that you go spend. For example, I just celebrated 1000 successful payments inside of the visionary method. I logged into my payment provider moonclerk. And I saw that 1000. And now more than 1000 people have and some of these are payment plans, but 1000 payments, I've gotten paid 1000 times from this silly little online course that I came up with seven years ago that people thought was crazy, that I was told would never work. Or that's what people were suggesting when they said why are you leaving your corporate job.

But I celebrated that because I know that that when I need to carry that with me because I might wake up tomorrow with a client who decides to pull shoot or with somebody who says something rude about my business or a social media post that doesn't do well and it affects my ego or, you know, a month where I don't have many discovery calls. And so where I'm going with all of this is to remind you that your adventure when It's going really well, or when it's totally tanking. It's all impermanent. I read a book when my mom passed away.

And the whole concept was this word impermanence. Nothing in life is permanent, right. So if you're going through a season or a phase in your business where you're just not motivated, just know that this isn't permanent. If you're going through a season where you're completely rocking the show, you're signing all these new clients. That's not permanent, either, right? So get Okay, get comfortable riding the wave. And with your low days, it's important to know what can get you back on track. What gets you to that point of feeling like you can continue this adventure forward. Because if you are on a 12 day, backcountry trip through Algonquin Park, which is an amazing park in Ontario, where I live, if you're only five days out into your, you know, two week trip, you don't get the choice to just quit, you don't.

Because you're in the middle of the bush, nobody's coming to rescue you. There's no phone service, you have to get up the next day and keep moving forward, you have to get back to your car, you have to find self cell service. So you're going to do whatever it takes to Portage, that next Portage to canoe that next leg of your trip, you don't have the choice to give up on an adventure like that. Otherwise, things don't go so well.

So just know that these ups and downs, they're so normal. And while there are times in life where we need to step back, there are also times when we feel like we can hit the gas pedal, and that is totally normal. And I just wanted to show up today and confirm that you are not crazy for feeling like this is the wildest adventure of your life.

You are not crazy for feeling like you can't go on another day, some days. And you are not crazy for feeling like you're on top of the world seeing a lake or a mountain or a sunset or the northern lights when nobody has seen the same view before and feeling like it doesn't get any better than this. So I hope this episode helps to inspire you to stay the course. Keep doing what you're doing. You

were born to do this, you have a unique magic, a light shining in you that nobody else does. Like there's literally nobody like you who has your voice who can create content like you do, who can share services and transform clients lives like you do. So get after it.

And don't be afraid to embrace the adventure rather than resist it. So that's it for today. visionaries. If you enjoy this episode, send me a DM on Instagram. I am always curious who's listening, I see the numbers, but I don't see your name. And it would be really cool. If you could just quickly grab your cell phone. So have an amazing rest of your week. And I will see you next time. Hey, visionaries, I wanted to interrupt this podcast to actually let you know about an upcoming offering that I am launching in collaboration with professional mindset and success coach Emily Elliot, you've probably heard me talk about your 2023 Leap cohort number one has been so successful.

And this is the highly anticipated program because there was so much demand for it in 2022, that myself a marketing consultant and top rated marketing coach and Emily Elliot, again, who's a professional success and mindset coach, we've teamed up to actually launch another cohort of your 2023 leap. Our first cohort, they're having smashing successes and the momentum is huge. So we've decided to launch it again in May of 2023. Between Emily and I, we have helped 1000s of individuals to grow their mindset and grow their success. And we're going to teach you the MVP model.

Mindset plus visibility equals more profitability. And if you're a for profit business, this is something that is so important that you dial in both of these pillars. But don't sign up yet. First, I want to run you through a few little things to see if you're ready for your 2023 leap. So if you want to learn from Emily how to embody the physiology of success, this has been a game changer for me personally. People have literally messaged me on Instagram.

I got a voice note from my friend Mark last night. And he said Kelsey, I don't know what's going on, but something's different about you. And I attribute this to him. bodying the physiology of success which Emily is teaching me. And he's also going to teach us how to step into an entrepreneurial mindset.

There are so many blocks that you might carry through from your previous corporate job that are actually keeping you stagnant. And I've recorded an entire podcast episode about this, called the three mindset blocks that were keeping me stuck. And then I step in each week over the 90 days to teach you a foolproof marketing strategy so that you can connect with unlimited clients.

That's pretty awesome, right? So I'm going to teach you how to use social media to convert followers into paid clients. I'm going to teach you how to build a simple sales and marketing funnel. I'm also going to show you how to leverage Google and SEO to get more leads to your business. This is so important, and 99% of businesses are not taking advantage of it. And you're also just going to be surrounded by the most insane entrepreneurs, we have 15 people in this cohort, and oh, my gosh, like there are tears there are there's laughter, a lot of the comments that have come through our private Slack channel, say, this is the program I didn't know I needed. I was so lonely. I was doing this with blinders on before your 2023 leap. And it's incredible to see how these individuals are collaborating both on the calls and off.

And I must say Emily and I are pretty awesome leaders of these hour and a half calls that we have each week.
