You're listening to the visionary life podcast. I'm your host, Kelsey Rydell. Each week, I'll bring you conversations with the most visionary humans on this earth, in hopes that you'll be able to absorb their wisdom, avoid their failures and feel less alone on the roller coaster ride that is entrepreneurship.
This season, I'll be chatting with creative thinkers, masterful marketers, brick and mortar shop owners, brand builders, and people just like you who have a story to share or a vision that inspires. If I can share one quick secret with you before we get into the episode.
It's that we all have a little bit of visionary inside of us, you know, that spark that nudges us to pursue our full potential in this lifetime. But perhaps somewhere along the line, it got covered up, I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to explore that inner voice and access the brilliance deep down inside of you. It's in you.
It's in all of us. Let's dive in.
Hey, visionaries. Welcome back to the show. We are recording this at the end of March 2023. I feel like this has been such a quick month but such an amazing month. And to round out our podcasts for the month. I thought since it's been a while since I just sat down and caught up with all of you that we would just sit here and chat and that I would take a bunch of questions. So we'll do kind of an AMA or an Ask me anything. And we'll just kind of jam on what's been going on what's coming up what I'm excited about, and any other questions that you all submitted through Instagram stories.
So I really felt like an episode like this was past due. And because it's Monday, it's a little dreary, outside, I'm feeling you know, a little lonely. And it's so fun to be able to connect with everybody over the mic. So I'm just going to give you an update on what life has been like lately, take you behind the scenes and grab a hot Bevy or, you know, maybe you're walking the dog or on the treadmill. But lots has happened, and I'm excited to fill you in.
So I'm going to start by answering a few questions from Instagram stories. If you don't follow me on Instagram, you can head over to at Kelsey Rydell. And you can follow me there I post quite often pretty active in the stories not so fond of reels at this point or feed post. But you know, when you find what works, you don't have to do everything when it comes to marketing. Alright, so you guys asked tell us more about Nancy. Okay, so I love this question. So the other day I posted a story where I basically described a situation that I recently had when I arrived at the airport, after my flight home from Florida. So I had forgotten to book an airport transfer from Toronto to my town of Paris, Ontario.
And for context, it's about an hour and 20 minutes. And my husband wasn't home yet. I had no family that could come pick me up. So the easiest thing to do is book one of these airport cars that come and pick you up costs 150 bucks, you're home in an hour and 20 minutes. Anyways, so I called a little bit late. I called like 24 hours ahead, and I was like, Hey, do you have any time to come pick me up? My flight arrives at 730? And they were like, Well, no.
But if you're willing to wait an hour, you can share a ride with somebody who's going somewhere near to you. And I was like, okay, cool. So I arrive at the ground transportation desk, and I'm sitting there half an hour to kill. So I set up my laptop, and I'm just working away. And then about an hour later, this guy comes in and he's clearly the taxi driver. And he's like, Hey, is there a Nancy here, Nancy going to and then he says the street name. And Nancy puts up her hand. And then he says is there a Kelsey here? And I'm like, oh, that's me must be sharing my ride with Nancy. And he's like, and you're going to this street? And I was like, yeah. And then I looked at Nancy and I said, Wait, what street? Are you going to what address? And she tells me and she's literally going to the house next to me. I was like, wait, no, but you're not my neighbor.
And she's like, No, but my sister is and so she was going to visit her sister. She had just got back from a trip to Thailand. And turns out Nancy is the most vibrant 73 year old woman who just got finished backpacking in Thailand, who just came off of two months in Mexico before Thailand, who is truly passionate about living every day to the fullest, and for the entire duration of our ride home together, we chatted and we shared stories of adventure and traveling around the world and being uncertain about what you're about to encounter. We talked about losing people you love, she shared with me that she lost her husband 12 minutes or 12 years earlier.
And I told her a little bit about losing my mom. And we shared stories about what life is like after you lose a loved one because I had just spent a bunch of time with my dad who obviously is now without my mom and Nancy just shared so many things that really stuck with me. And I really do believe they will stick with me forever because one of the main concepts that she shared was that you are never too old to explore, discover, and to live with that curiosity. She told me a story about how when COVID hit and she was kind of all alone up at her Lake property. She was feeling kind of bored because a lot of her clubs got canceled. And she thought well, it's beautiful. It's snowy, there's great winter weather here. So she went out and bought herself a snowmobile at 71 and she would bomb around on her snowmobile.
She said she had so much fun. And then eventually her neighbors said, Nancy, I mean, we're so excited that you're hooting and hollering on your snowmobile. But you probably shouldn't do this by yourself just in case anything happened. So they ended up buying a snowmobile and then the two of them went out together. So she spent two years snowmobiling each winter. She said she also bought snowshoes that winter. And as soon as the water kind of warmed up and was not frozen anymore, she was doing polar bear dips. And she goes on and on telling me how she really maximized her time during COVID. She shared how even you know no matter what the season was, she always loves to sit out on her back deck and look at the stars and just be in awe of what she's seeing in the night sky. And how sometimes she'll just fall asleep on her patio, and then she'll wake up and go, Oh, I gotta get to bed. But the stories that came from Nancy were truly beautiful. And just to share one more, I mean, I could recap the entire hour and a half drive.
But I don't want to bore all of you. Although I think we could all be more like Nancy. That's the new hashtag, hashtag be more like Nancy. But the other story she told me was that when her husband was diagnosed with terminal illness, he was actually only given six weeks to live. He ended up living 12 years. And every single day, every single week, Nancy would ask him what's on your bucket list this week.
And her job for those 12 years was to fulfill his bucket list. She said she was kind of like the magician that made it happen. And they didn't know how long he was going to live.
But they would throw themed parties, they would still travel, they would adventure together, see their grandchildren. And every time she says they would get on a plane and he maybe wasn't feeling the best, she would say are you sure you want to travel? And he'd say, Nancy, you're either gonna bring me home, in an urn on your lap, or I'll be sitting beside you. So let's just go or something like that.Nothing could hold her back. And at 73 She has more energy, more passion for life than anyone I know. And that hour with Nancy was truly transformative in my life. I'm hoping to see her I haven't seen her for the past few days since I arrived home.
So I don't know if she left her sister or not. But regardless, I feel like we could all be a little more like like Nancy, you're never too old to chase your dreams. And so thank you to the person who asked to talk more about Nancy because, in my opinion, that was truly one of those serendipitous moments. It's like when you get to sit beside someone by accident or you feel like there was luck that brought two people together in a certain situation. That was one of those moments for me. And when you are receptive to life and open to the magic that's around us. I do think that serendipitous moments happen a lot. I've had quite a few in my life, but more so in the last few years as I've been open to them. I mean, even Okay, so just to share a quick story. I had been searching for a branding photographer ever since I moved to the small town of Paris, Ontario where I live now. Obviously in Toronto, it was a little bit easier, but I thought I want to support someone local.
So I was looking in Paris and Branford and I wasn't really finding anyone. Anyways, so fast forward, completely unrelated. I have this aura ring. So it's a ring that you wear that tracks your steps, your sleep, your heart rate, and I didn't use it anymore. So I decided to sell my aura ring on Facebook marketplace. And I got a ton of messages, but you know, everyone's flaky. But then one person messages me her name's Evie, and she's like, Hey, I'd like to buy your aura ring. And I'm like, Okay, you can come right now. She's like, I'll be there in 15 minutes. She shows up on my doorstep. And she's, you know, a younger girl. And I sell her the aura ring, and we get chatting.
And she's like, I noticed that you are friends with. And then she says Sarah Monica. Sara Monica was my previous brand photographer, and who's now a friend of mine. And, uh, you know, a very famous educator for photographers and amazing wedding photographer. And I had just spent the day with Sarah. And I was like, yeah, like, I'm good friends with her. She's like, I'm actually taking her courses right now. And I was like, Oh, no way. So you're a photographer. She's like,
Yeah, I'm actually a brand photographer. So like, Okay, well, can you send me a message on Instagram, let's keep in touch. So, you know, fast forward a few weeks later, we've booked a session together, we've decided to do a collaboration inside of the visionary method. And it was just one of those serendipitous moments that when you're open to life, I feel like life delivers. And the universe is willing to put people in front of you, or put the right situations in front of you for you to learn the lessons that you need to learn.
And I do think that there's things that crowd out our ability to catch those serendipitous moments, but I think I've been doing a lot of work with being present, and meditation and self awareness that has really helped me to stay dialed into them.
So I'm curious, have you ever had something that you would define as a serendipitous moment? And if so, please share it with me. I love hearing all of your stories. So feel free to find me on Instagram and just send me a note and let me know what that's been for you. Alright, let's get into the next question.
Next question is How was your time in Florida? How long? Were you there? Alright, so yeah, if you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen that I was in Florida for the majority of March, it kind of it wasn't really planned that way. But if you know what it's like to fly over March Break, prices are extremely elevated. So because we were going for my mother in law's 60s, I knew we had defined dates, and it was over March break, so that our niece and nephew would be on holidays. But as I started to look at flights and I booked my flights separately from my husband, Dave, and I waited a little bit too long, I realized that flying over March Break is ridiculously expensive. And so I thought, well, if I tack on a few days before and a few days after, I can probably bump the price down, which was very, very true. So because my dad spends a lot of the winter in Florida, I knew he was going to be there at that time, just on the other side of the state.
So I ended up going for 15 days, because that just was the easiest and most effective way to get my flights at a great cost. And so anyways, I had a bit of hesitation, because I'm like, okay, am I a snowbird now? Like, do I deserve to be away for 15 days, of course, I was still going to be working down there. Because no matter where I go in the world, I am always with my laptop. And I'm always still following through on my client meetings, and I'm able to check in. So it's kind of neat that I can work from down there, but ended up that I was going to spend, you know, a week on one side of the state and then go to the other side of the state of Florida for a week. And then back to the other side. So it was a lot of travel, but I kind of had this nudge that like, you should do this. Why not? Right? You don't have that many commitments back home.
Obviously, I have things like a volleyball league or yoga class or my friends to catch up with but I also thought mid March is just such a wonderful time to get into the sunshine. And again, I have that ability. I almost have to pinch myself and remind myself that I don't work a job that only gives me three weeks of vacation anymore. And you know, there's certainly perks to working on your own in that you have unlimited vacation, but there's also the downfall it's not like you get paid on vacation.
But hey visionary, I want to quickly interrupt this episode to ask you if you've been curious what it's like to work with a private business and more Getting coach. If you're a business owner, and you feel like your marketing plan is all over the place, you haven't figured out your search engine optimization or your SEO strategy, you have no idea what your social media marketing plan is, and you are not doing so well on the self Express content front. I call these the marketing a trio. It's the three S's SEO social media self expressed content.
And by dialing in all three of these pillars, you too, can get more visible, generate more income, and increase your lead generation where you're actually turning your followers into paid clients. And you're constantly bringing new people in at the top of the funnel. If you're not familiar with my work, I am a private business and marketing coach. And I have spent the last 13 years working in the marketing industry, many of those years doing consulting with clients like you who want to finally get more visible and get in front of their dream clients.
So when we work together, you have me for four months, as your marketing partner, I'm going to do a full audit of your business, put you on a private project management software with me. And then based on your innate skill sets based on your strength, based on where you are curious and where your dream clients are paying attention. We're going to build out a custom marketing strategy, we're going to track it, we're going to optimize it. And by the end of the four months, you have a plan that works. And you're seeing results. It's truly incredible. Christina crook, just landed a $100,000 consulting contract after implementing just one of my marketing strategies. Emily Fraser signed multiple new clients in one day after just one month of working with me.
And now she is having consistent five figure months. And Natasha, she started leveraging her email list in December, and 30 days later in January, she pulled in $25,000 from one single email that we created. So these results are possible for you too. But don't sign up yet. Just had to Kelseyreidl.com. And check out how we can work together, learn all about it, make sure you feel informed. And if you'd like to book a discovery call with me just fill out the application on my website, we can get on the phone and see if it's a good fit for you. So anyways, I don't want to interrupt this episode anymore. I cannot wait to work with you to support you and getting you more visible. And let's get back into the show. LikeI said, I don't really take vacation. And something I've been thinking so much about lately is that the more breaks I take, the more effective I can be the more big picture thinking that I can do. So yeah, I ended up being there a little over two weeks, and I loved it. The weather was perfect. It was literally 30 degrees and sunny every day. And I have some really good rituals down there. So when I stay with my dad, we always work together, because he works still too mostly from his laptop. And he runs a company back in Ontario. And yeah, then I would walk the beach and do my emails. I would work out I would go swimming. And yeah, it was just kind of like a great way to just switch up my scenery.
So that was really awesome. Someone asked do you take time off while you were in Florida. So like I said, when I was with my dad, just him and I we were working the whole time. And then when I went across the state and met up with my husband and my brother in law, my sister in law, my niece, my nephew, my mother in law, my father in law and all their friends. I had intentions to work I was like okay, like, can't take time off like too busy have so much to do have clients. And the more I started to think about it, the more I was like, What am I doing? Like I arrived there and I started working on the first day and I thought I missing out on life. This is not why I started a business to be in an office while everybody else is enjoying the pool.
And much as there was something in me that was like no you have to work like stay stay on course and keep do do doing. I've also been trying to adopt this mentality that sometimes just being is enough, like not always feeling like you have to push the gas pedal because that has been a bit of it's been a serving thought because I've worked really hard over the last seven years. But to a degree I also feel like I need to be okay withlike taking time off and with learning from life and knowing that that benefits my business versus like I'm wasting my time. I remember hearing an episode of the podcast impact theory by Tom bill you and he said something along the lines of how he works 16 hours a day, six or seven days a week and Do I admire that hustle? I really do. But now thinking about a schedule like that, if that's what it took to build a business, I don't want that. Like there is no way and the previous version of me like the me of 10 years ago, I was okay with being out of the house 12 hours a day, I was a hustler. But the me of today, it's I'm different now. I'm in my mid 30s, I don't feel like I want to constantly be on the go constantly traveling, constantly, fully booked up. I think again, it served me for a while, but I'm really okay with shifting into that being and just the enjoyment of less on my plate.
And knowing that I'm still a worthy entrepreneur, I'm still a valid human being, even if I'm not checking off 655 things on my to do list. So anyways, to sum that up, Florida was great was there for a long time. But I'm back now and feeling pretty good. All right, next question. Oh, this one's more of a comment. It says My mom just passed away. And I have no motivation to show up for my business. Okay, so I'm assuming this was shared with me, because I've often talked about how my mom passed away about a year and a half ago. And I've shared a few times on how that has impacted me not only as a human, but as a business owner.
And I certainly don't have the answer for this. But I really do think there are a few things you can consider in this situation. Number one, as you're navigating grief, you may need to take a step back, that doesn't mean disappearing forever. Because I think for some of us, our businesses provide us a safe space or a sanctuary to actually deal with our grief. And I was really grateful to be able to have the normalcy of my days, my clients, my workload, so that I wasn't constantly stewing around the devastation of the most important person in my life unexpectedly passing away. So for me, navigating grief looked like stepping back for a little bit, and then really getting back to normal within a couple of weeks. But I do understand, and I saw it with certain family members that this is not the case for everyone. So if you're feeling like you have no motivation, give yourself time off, like, don't pretend that you need to show up for work and hold yourself accountable to what you were doing before she passed away. I think it's important to honor your journey to allow yourself time and space. And just to understand what feels nourishing for you in this moment. For me, it was biking. Like, since my mom passed away in the summer, and I had just picked up the sport of mountain biking, I threw myself into writing and being around my friends who also biked and I was booking a lot of day trips to get away and to basically, I would call it drown out my feelings, but in a good, healthy productive way. Because it really did make me feel alive again.
And like I had purpose in my life. And it made me the best version of myself in that moment. So yeah, did I like work extremely hard on my business that summer? No, but I still showed up and worked four days a week, to some capacity for the first month or two. And then I chose activities that really felt nourishing to me. I would say to I did distract myself a little bit. So now even a year and a half later. I'm feeling the just like the repercussions of what happened. And maybe I didn't take time enough to process things. So yeah, it's still bubbling up and just know that everybody deals with grief differently.
And it is kind of an ever evolving, never ending journey. And so I have lots of compassion for you, my heart goes out to you. I know how shitty it is. There's just no other way to describe it. So I hope that is supportive and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. Okay, next question. Somebody is asking me how I work with my clients. What does a marketing coach do? Alright, so really good question here. So, with my private coaching clients, I'm assuming that's what you're referring to. I work with them for four months. So for a phase of four months, we are working together and they basically bring me into their business to act as a consultant and a coach to give them their next steps so that they can explore creates more success, increase our revenue, find new income streams and develop a simple marketing system with my support. So say you were to think about outsourcing to an agency, where you basically just like hand over your business, to some random employees of an agency, you're going to pay like 40,000 a year, yes, you are going to have them on retainer.
But oftentimes, the agency doesn't really understand your business, your brand voice, and you don't actually know who your agency partner is going to be, or who your account manager is going to be. So it's a lot of money for not guaranteed results. The step before that is really to work with someone like myself. So for four months, you pay $8,000.
And I'm going to sit with you and actually develop that marketing strategy really come up with those systems. So whether you're doing digital marketing, or social media marketing, or community and workshop based marketing, or you're doing search engine optimization, or you're hosting webinars, or you're doing a lot of in person relationship building and networking, we're going to figure out what actually works to bring new clients into your business. So that's a mixture of online and offline marketing efforts. And not only are we going to implement and actually execute the strategies, but we are going to measure the performance. So we're actually going to be tracking after 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 120 days and seeing the trends based on what we're doing. So that by the end of our four months together, you have a tried and tested system of marketing strategies that work.
And the cool thing about well, if I can just pump my own tires for Zack, cool thing about working with me is I am a specialist in a lot of different areas of marketing. I've worked in digital marketing, social media marketing, I've worked in email marketing, I've worked in lead generation, I've worked in building websites and user experience and user design. I've also worked in experiential marketing. So offline marketing, relationship building, giving people samples of your work, hosting community workshops, networks, referral based marketing, word of mouth marketing. So I really see marketing from a holistic perspective. And I love to be able to support small business owners who have no idea where to begin, in actually figuring out what that marketing strategy can be for them, that's not overwhelming. And that actually feels fun to them.
Because if we're not having fun, what is the point? Right? Okay, so let's get into our next question. Can you tell us more about the visionary method?
Well, of course, I swear I didn't put this question in there. So the visionary method is the course that I developed and live coaching, that is going to help you launch your online business and learn how to generate your first 50,000 in revenue. So I've brought about 300 people through this course, who have successfully launched and grown their business. And it's essentially a seven step system that you get access to.So it's all in an online course. But in addition to that, if you go with our growth, or our premium membership, you actually get access to our weekly group coaching calls where we have guest experts monthly q&a is monthly marketing, trainings, monthly masterminds. And if you do the premium membership, you also get private coaching sessions with me, which a lot of people end up doing because they love having that one on one time.
So if you want to dive into trainings, like what mindset you need to go full time with your online business, or how to find five new clients in the next five weeks, or how to launch a sold out group coaching program, or the formula for writing a memorable Instagram or Tiktok bio, if you want to know intro to SEO or how to rank higher on Google, how to sell without feeling salesy, how to decide on how to price your services, tips for defining your niche and so much more. I have everything for you inside of tvm best way to learn more would be Kelsey reidl/tvm. That's where you can apply. Learn more about our membership tiers, and see if the program is a good fit for you.
Okay, last question here. When are you launching your next cohort of 2023 leap? And who is this program for? Oh, I love this question as well. So some of you may have seen that back in January, my colleague and I Emily Elliot Who is a mindset coach, we launched a hybrid program together, it's a 90 day program together. And right now we're actually working with 15 incredible entrepreneurs who are learning to embody the physiology of success, like literally changing who they are at their core.
And they're learning the marketing and business growth skills to actually succeed and to make sure that they have the right business plan in place to go big. So once they embody that physiology of success, they also are shifting things on the back end of their business. And that's when their big leaps happen. So for people who are in their first one to three years of building their business, and maybe they're feeling a bit lost or stuck, or they know that they're blocking themselves, they don't feel like they have the confidence or, you know, more glaringly, they don't have the number of clients that they want. That's where your 2023 Leap, can really come in handy. So just think you'll have access to a marketing expert, and a mindset and success coach for a full three months.
So you can ask us questions, we have weekly coaching calls, it truly is a transformative group, if you want to experience more abundance in your business in 2023. So if I could be a little bit boastful, one more time, I would say this program is the game changer in your business's success in the next few months. So if you've been feeling a little bit blocked, don't do this alone. I've over seven years, I've experienced these moments where I felt so lonely, I wasn't doing anything in my business, I would have a free day. And I'd be like, Okay, I'll make a couple of social media posts. But that doesn't do anything, right. If you want to make epic progress, you have to take a big leap. And so often that actually comes down to being around people who are just as motivated, who have big goals, and who are going to encourage you and raise you up and support you.
So if that is something you might want to do, this is my only group coaching offering for 2023, then head to Kelsey rydell.com/ 2023. I will put the link in the show notes and you can just get on the waitlist so that when things launch for the May cohort you will be forced to know. Alright, so this has been fun. I hope you enjoyed the q&a that was a bit of a random show, like Tim Ferriss always says, but I hope there was something of value in there.
As always, if you want to connect, I'm Kelsey rattle.com at Kelsey Rydell on Instagram. And if you enjoyed this episode, be sure you subscribe. And if you could rate or review the show, that would be so awesome as well. Alright guys, we will wrap it up here. Have a visionary day and I will catch you next week.
Hey visionaries. I wanted to interrupt this podcast to actually let you know about an upcoming offering that I am launching in collaboration with professional mindset and success coach Emily Elliot, you've probably heard me talk about your 2023 leaf cohort number one has been so successful. And this is the highly anticipated program because there was so much demand for it in 2022, that myself a marketing consultant and top rated marketing coach and Emily Eliot. Again, he's a professional success and mindset coach, we've teamed up to actually launch another cohort of your 2020 free leads our first cohort, they're having smashing successes, and the momentum is huge.
So we've decided to launch it again in May of 2023. Between Emily and I, we have helped 1000s of individuals to grow their mindset and grow their success. And we're going to teach you the MVP model, mindset plus visibility equals more profitability. And if you're a for profit business, this is something that is so important that you dial in both of these pillars. But don't sign up yet.
First, I want to run you through a few little things to see if you're ready for your 2023 leap. So if you want to learn from Emily how to embody the physiology of success, this has been a game changer for me personally, people have literally messaged me on Instagram. I got a voice note from my friend Mark last night. And he said Kelsey, I don't know what's going on. But something's different about you. And I attribute this to embodying the physiology of success which Emily is teaching me. And he's also going to teach us how to step into an entrepreneurial mindset.
There are so many blocks that you might carry through from your previous corporate job that are actually keeping you stagnant and I've recorded an entire podcast Last episode about this called the three mindset blocks that were keeping me stuck. And then I step in each week over the 90 days to teach you a foolproof marketing strategy so that you can connect with unlimited clients. That's pretty awesome, right? So I'm going to teach you how to use social media to convert followers into paid clients. I'm gonna teach you how to build a simple sales and marketing funnel. I'm also going to show you how to leverage Google and SEO to get more leads to your business. This is so important, and 99% of businesses are not taking advantage of it.
