You're listening to the visionary life podcast. I'm your host, Kelsey Reidl.
Each week, I'll bring you conversations with the most visionary humans on this earth, in hopes that you'll be able to absorb their wisdom, avoid their failures and feel less alone on the roller coaster ride that is entrepreneurship.
This season, I'll be chatting with creative thinkers, masterful marketers, brick and mortar shop owners, brand builders, and people just like you who have a story to share or a vision that inspires.
If I can share one quick secret with you before we get into the episode. It's that we all have a little bit of visionary inside of us, you know, that spark that nudges us to pursue our full potential in this lifetime.
But perhaps somewhere along the line, it got covered up, I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to explore that inner voice and access the brilliance deep down inside of you. It's in you, it's in all of us. Let's dive in.
Hey, visionaries, welcome back to the pod It is Monday morning at the time that I am recording this. And there's something about a Monday where I used to dread them. And now I love them. And one of the reasons is that I consciously made a choice a few years ago, to actually block off my Mondays and not take calls. So the reason why I did this because I felt like I need my Mondays to kind of ease into the week, really look at what's coming up and mentally prepare for a lot of coaching on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. And Monday is my fresh brain day.
So I feel like after having a couple of days off, I come to my business with this renewed sense of energy. I swear I get more done on Mondays than I could do any other day of the week combined. And that's just because I feel fresh. And I'm sure you felt that feeling before when you've maybe worked like seven or 10 days in a row.
Maybe it was when you're in university, and you used to sling a couple jobs to make ends meet. And by the end of like day nine or 10, you're just like, I am so exhausted. And you keep saying I cannot wait for a day off. And I realized that a few years ago and decided, You know what, I'm in charge. I'm the boss here. I'm not working Saturdays and Sundays. That's just a conscious decision.
Because I have to honor my own physiology. And it was funny because I thought I did have to work weekends. I was like, I'm an entrepreneur, I work all the time. So it is really funny to actually think back to all of the different mindset shifts that I've made over the last many years of running a business. And also all of the shifts to my marketing strategy. Marketing can feel very overwhelming. And as a business owner, you're like, oh my gosh, should I be sending out a weekly email, I should post on Instagram every day film reels, I need to host a podcast, I need to post on LinkedIn and make sure I'm active there. Should I have a blog?
Should I started a YouTube channel should I be doing partnerships and connecting with other networking groups. And it's just, it's a lot, right. But at this point, I wake up Monday and I have a checklist of about seven things that I do. It sets my entire week up for success, my virtual assistant is able to prepare a lot of the content on the back end after I've given her creative direction after I've actually written the captions.
And sometimes she'll then pop into Canva, she'll do all the design work, then she'll either send it back to me or schedule the emails, or go ahead and post it if I've approved all of the creative and all of the captions.
So there's just so many things that we can do. And this is what I want to talk about today. There's so many things that we can do as business owners to feel a sense of ease in our business. And I'm not saying that it's going to be easy, right from the get go.
But I want you to feel like a wave of warm ocean water rushes over you each time you look at your business, it's like okay, like I'm gonna get wet here, my feet are gonna get a little bit wet and like we're diving in, but it also feels nourishing to take on all of these tasks because I feel prepared. My physiology is ready. I mentally am clear, and I know what to work on.
So I'm going to lay in this ocean I'm going to feel the sand in my toes the water rush over me. And yeah, there might be some pressure on me from the weight of the water but it's a good pressure right I'm in my bathing suit in the sunshine. So when I think of that visual of just okay, the weeks coming at me the Wave is gonna rush over me. I feel oh man, if you've ever like just jumped into the ocean, close your eyes submerged yourself fully not been worried about like, oh my god, I'm gonna get my hair wet, forget about it just go right in, and then you feel the waves happening around you. But as my friend Emily Elliott says you're a skillful sailor and the waves, you just ride them, and you're still holding your breath underwater. But you're able to open your eyes and observe and you feel the warmth of the water, you feel the pressure around you, you feel your hair just kind of wavering above you.
And you know that there's water coming at you from all sides. But you can handle it, you feel that sense of ease, that sense of calmness, that sense of peace. And so I want to give you some tips today to really sit in that energy. Because the last thing I ever want to do is tell you or make it seem like a business needs to be stressful and overwhelming. I mean, my goal is to take the overwhelm out of business, specifically out of marketing and to make it fun for you.
Because if we're not having fun, are we missing the point? Are we missing the point. And you know, just to cue this episode up even further, my husband and I were shooting a wedding this past Saturday. And in case you don't know, he has a videography business called visionary media.
And he offers wedding videography, adventure videos, videography, drone photography, and videography. And so we often take on weddings, and we do a select number of them each year. And we produce wedding videos for amazing adventurous couples who are getting married mostly outside. And at this wedding, it just so happened to be a second wedding for both the bride and the groom. And between them, they had four kids. And it was actually, you know, somewhat tragic of a story in that the groom lost his wife and mother of three very young children to a terminal illness.
And he was left raising his three young kids wondering if he could go on with his life. And in that moment, the bride, the woman, she stepped into his life, and they had been friends for a while she was divorced, raising her single, or raising her kid as a single mama. And in these challenging times they came together.
And the thing that came up through all of their speeches, because they were really recognizing the importance of this new union, but not forgetting what got them here. And the the family units that existed before this one. And it was really cool, because even the ex husband was there, the ex husband's new wife was there.
And it was just this very supportive environment. And they recognized the the former wife who had passed away, they talked about her a lot, but they kept coming back to this sentiment of we are not guaranteed tomorrow. So let's do our best even with four young kids, and a new marriage and two full time jobs, let's do our best to enjoy and make the best of every situation. Like I'm saying it's not always going to be easy. But we are not guaranteed tomorrow. It's not always going to be easy, but and that really rushed over me just as a reminder. I feel like I've learned that lesson so many times in life. But if you really think about it, if you are not guaranteed tomorrow, are you happy with what you're up to today?
Guys, like I know, there's this tendency to believe that it's okay to coast and you're going to be around for the next 5060 years. So why does it matter if you're just kind of on the fast track to mediocrity, but those people don't really listen to this podcast. So I know who I'm talking to. You're listening because your goalposts in life keep shifting, like maybe 10 years ago, you were like, I just can't wait to the weekend so I can go get drunk at the bar. And that was awesome, right? You're always looking forward to the next Friday and you wanted to go get your late night poutine and that was the goalpost. It was like have so much fun getting wasted on $2 drinks at the bar. And now your goalpost is so much further. You're like I want to be the best frickin mom or dad I want to have incredible health so I'm going to invest in food and a personal trainer. I desire to have a business that brings me wealth, wealth for my kids so I can send them off to college I desire to have a relationship up, where we don't bicker, we don't argue we are dating each other, we love each other. And yeah, it's not gonna be easy, but I'm willing to put in the work. So that's my best guess, like you're listening because you're not on the fast track to mediocrity. And if you were, you'd probably wake up one day and be like, holy shit, I need to change this. And because we're not guaranteed tomorrow, people like you and me, we really look at the present moment. And we kind of look around and say,
All right, things aren't perfect. They never Are you guys, never, never, never, never not in business, not with your family, not with your partner, not with your health, not with your relationships, not with your finances like that. Nothing is ever perfectly in balance, right? But people like you and me wake up each day and say, Where can I be 1% better. Or maybe you think I'm really frickin tired today, but I'm still going to show up and smile and make people feel seen and heard. I'm still going to be appreciative to the barista at my coffee shop and make conversation with them. I'm still going to go out of my way to check in on my clients because they are the most valuable asset in my business besides myself.
And so my goal today is not only to ask you the question of where do you want to get 1% better, but also where do you need to make some shifts in order to make sure that you're living the life today? That is more towards your dream life than you were yesterday. And it's crazy, because I haven't always been an entrepreneur and business to me, is essential to my happiness running my own business. Just because I really didn't thrive in a corporate setting. I value my freedom too much.
My creative autonomy, I value the ability to promote myself and not wait for somebody to give me a salary or a bonus or a raise. And so if I can rewind a little bit back to 2015, my husband and I, we took a dream vacation to Peru. And I don't know why we decided on Peru I think we had a couple friends or acquaintances that had gone there. We started to look up photos and videos of Machu Picchu, we went out and we bought the Lonely Planet. And we looked up when is a good time to go. And really we were limited on our time. And even though December was the start of rainy season, we just had this, this gut feeling that we needed to go to Peru. And so we flew into Lima we stayed overnight there explored the city a little bit. Then we took another plane into this tiny little mountainous town called Cusco where there was extremely high elevation I'm pretty sure I had the worst altitude sickness of my life, paired with female challenges paired with a hangover because we stayed at this hostel. And we partied so hard and we drank pisco sours, look them up, if you've never had one, they are delicious.Keep in mind I was in my young 20s or mid 20s. And okay, so there's that. But from there, we began this trek to Machu Picchu. And the reason I'm telling you this is because it was on that trip that I first started dreaming about more for my business. And for my lifestyle in general. I didn't want to be bound by the nine to five, I hated reporting into my manager. I didn't like the assessments that we were doing of my performance when I didn't even feel like I was able to activate all of my ideas, because they were shot down. And it was on day three of this grueling trek to Machu Picchu.
And I brought my iPod and I brought my earbuds and I was hiking day three, like we had all run out a conversation on this trip at this point. And we're like, hey, we just want to get to Machu Picchu. And I'm listening to the new Justin Bieber album at the time. And he has this song on the album called children. And in the song children, he actually says the word visionary. And if you've never heard Justin Bieber, children, go listen to it. So you get some context. And it was on that track. I'm in the mountains. It is so beautiful. I'm tired. I'm sick. This was just altitude sickness. At that point, my hangover was gone. And it all hit me it was like, you wait for these catalystic moments of just like everything's going to be different from this point forward. And it was a word in a song for me, you guys. And that woke me up to my dream life. I knew I wanted to start a community and a brand that revolved around the word visionary. And I get it. This is crazy. You're like, Okay, so you've started a business, thanks to Justin Bieber, and well, that is the truth. And today the business is doing well. And I have Biebs to thank, and I always have a vision of meeting him one day and telling him but anyways, fast forward eight years, and you see the business I have today built on passion, built on following my curiosity, a love for adventure, and trial and error, and a willingness to go first and to pioneer the online world when eight years ago, it wasn't, it wasn't as common as it was today. And I hope to be a model for you, to show you what's possible because I wasn't afraid to go first. Because I had, and I'm not going to name names, but I have a few people to think for my career. Because years before I started my business, I started following a couple of public figures. They were from a similar town not far from where I lived.
And they were building heavily in the online space with a website, Instagram, a Facebook group, and they were hosting live webinars. And I showed up in awe. As if like, this is possible people are paying you for your content. You have an online course 10 years ago when this wasn't a thing, and they were expanders for me. They show me what was possible. So when I heard that word visionary, it wasn't just like I saw the online business of my dreams, it was that I had been preparing myself I had been doing a lot of personal growth work. I had been finding myself for lack of a better term, like I was teaching fitness classes, I was studying nutrition, I was getting very involved in the community, the fitness and wellness community in Toronto, I was meeting so many people I was going to events on weekends, I was hosting workshops on goal setting and vision boarding. And I was joining co working spaces, and I was putting myself in position. I didn't know what I was doing. But that's when I heard the word visionary in Peru that things just started to click, and I knew I was going to get home, I was going to invite all these wonderful people I had been meeting into the group, I was going to go to my co working space and start talking to people about business.
And I was just going to take one step at a time. And a big thing for me was that I hired coaches, I needed support. I didn't know how to build an online business. Yes, I had watched people from afar. Yes, I'm a very savvy marketer, but I needed some business sense. What do I charge? How do I put an offer together? How do I build a website that's going to rank on Google? What about social media? And the other thing that I didn't really know at the time was how much my mindset was going to help and or hinder me? Was it going to sabotage me when I launched? Was it going to tell me that I am no better than any other guru on the internet wasn't going to tell me that you'll never make more than 70k a year because that's what you made in your last corporate job? Was my physiology prepared for a really big business? And truth? No, it wasn't. So I kept myself a little smaller, which most people do for the first few years. And I want to even fast forward now because my trip to Peru was eight years ago. And recently inside of the business. Here at visionary HQ, we celebrated a big milestone, and I nearly skipped over it and forgot to bring the story here. And I know this podcast is the place where you and I connect. And we just talk and I can kind of open my heart and just riff a little bit without a plan.
But we made our 1000 1000 Is that a word? 1000 sales, and now we're up towards almost 1100. But we made our 1000 sale last month. And when I logged into my payment processor, and then said number of successful payments, and the number was now in the four digits. Wow, that took my breath away. I texted my husband immediately. And I always share my wins with him first and I said, Oh my God, look at this and I texted him a photo of my payment processor. And he texted me back right away. And he said, I've always known this was coming. I'm proud of you. How are we celebrating? And I got full body chills because this milestone marks not only a major personal accomplishment for me, but it also signifies how far we've come in this day and age when it comes to digital education and building online personal brands and being able to cook Create an income stream for yourself, whether you do content creation for brands, whether you sell a course, whether you do coaching, or consulting, whether you do online, patient visits, whether you sell a product, it is amazing what can happen when we put our mind and our heart into something.
And I want this to be a reminder, like eight years isn't a short amount of time. So please never compare your journey to mine. I've shown up very consistently for eight years, I've never disappeared from you guys. And I just want this to be a reminder to never give up on your dreams no matter how impossible they may seem. And I'll just share a few quick tips when it comes to mindset. And when it comes to visibility that can help you soar. So number one with mindset is remind yourself that you're unlimited. If you've ever read the book, The Big Leap, you know, they talk about this concept called Upper Limiting. And it's like, sometimes we have these upper limits, usually around what we believe is possible. Like, oh, I could probably only ever make 100,000 in a year. That's an upper limit, because you're an entrepreneur, now you can make 1,000,005 million 10 million.Or when you say things like, yeah, we can only take 10 People in our online course at a time, that's an upper limit, because I'm sure you could modify it and enroll 50 people and radically increase your overall revenue. Or maybe you say I'm really not good at public speaking, that's an upper limit, because you could practice and maybe you could become really great like others who have started at the bottom like you. So that's tip number one is to identify your upper limits. Tip number two is to try and stay in an abundance mindset. And guys, I have to tell you, like I am not a woowoo person for the most part. I mean, my clients tell me sometimes, Kelsey, you're way more spiritual and connected to the woowoo than you think. Because I'm very strategy tactic marketing, growth plans, but I also have really leaned into the spiritual side because it is essential and the soft skills in business are equally as lucrative as the hard skills. But having an abundance mindset and knowing that everything you want to call in is already there. And it is coming. Maybe not now, maybe not tomorrow. But are you going to hold the space for all of the abundance? Are you willing to wait 10 or 20 years for all of the abundance? Are you willing to believe that what you desire is available to you? Or do you think, nope, I will never have a house bigger than this. I really don't believe it's possible. For me. There's not enough resources for me to grow my business or everything saturated already. That's not abundance mindset.
So if you're having trouble with that, listen to Deepak Chopra, the 30 day abundance meditation. It's very, very, very transformative, and it's free on Spotify. And the third mindset tip I have for you is that your challenges are stepping stone. So you have to keep that in mind. If your mindset is that challenges or detrimental challenges make you give up challenges make you fearful of the future, then your mindset is off, because entrepreneurship is one big challenge. And there's such opportunities for personal growth and business success. And if you decide to stay in victim mentality, like why is this challenge happening to me, then you will bask in that victim energy and you probably won't, you won't see yourself flourish and that and that really feels sad to me.However, I do get that it's easy to swim in victimhood, whether it's for a few minutes, a few hours, sometimes days at a time, but you have to have tools and methods to get yourself out of it. So those are my three mindset tips. Rewind, if you want to hear those again, or visit the show notes. And then let's talk about the three visibility tips to become more profitable in your business. So number one, do not neglect an SEO and keyword strategy right from the very beginning of your business. If you're in this for the long game and you've never considered SEO before. I want you to drop what you're doing. DM me on Instagram with the word SEO. And let's get started on a strategy for you.
This is your long game. This is you not having to play the social media algorithm game you guys and we need to think strategically here there are so many coaches telling you that you can just launch a $10,000 offer and then go sit in a hammock I can wait for people to find you. That doesn't work if you're not showing up on Google. So let's get down to some tactical tips and tricks here some really easy stuff that you can do.
Number two, it's great that you're posting on social media. But do you have a strategy mean a sales funnel through social. So I teach a course called Insta sales, it teaches you to master your social media content creation and sales funnel, in just 30 days, you can go to Kelsey rydell.com, and click on courses if you're interested.
Or if you sign up for our upcoming group program, you're 2023 leads, I'll give you free access to that course. But it's essential. I mean, if you don't know how to convert your followers into paying clients, you cannot rely on likes and comments to pay your bills. So you're probably missing out on a lot of money on a lot of lead gen and having a social media sales funnel is essential. So that's visibility. Tip number two. And number three, for visibility. Whatever you choose, I'm a big fan of teaching my clients self expressed marketing. And I teach this in all of my consulting and courses and programs that frequency breeds trust.
So if you show up frequently, if you choose to podcast or email or YouTube or blog, or do Instagrams or do Facebook's or do LinkedIn ads, if you do it frequently, people are going to start to trust you, they're going to see your heart, they're gonna see your expertise. So choose that thing that brings you joy, commit to it on a regular cadence. And that alone will set you so far apart. Because most people, they start a podcast and they don't get past eight episodes, they write a blog, and they go, Oh, that took so much time and they never do it again. They get on tick tock, and then they're like, Oh, I hate this platform. So they're not committed, right. And if you're not committed, don't expect results.
So there's the hard side of me coming out. But I'm going to teach all of these things in our upcoming year 2023 LEAP program. I teach them all to my private clients as well, best way to learn about everything that's going on is to click the show notes, or to head over to Kelsey rydell.com, for all of the latest and greatest. And I hope this was insightful. I just wanted to hang and share a coffee with you. And also know what's up in your world, right? Are you in that place where I was eight years ago, where you're in the corporate job, and you just know you need a soul searching trip? Because that can be very helpful. Are you in the place where I was four years ago, five years ago, where you're hustling hard, you're overwhelmed, and you need someone to cut through all the chaos and show you what to focus on the simple success system that's going to allow you to stay in love with your business?
Or are you in that phase right now where you're ready to launch that new income stream, that secondary income stream, maybe you want to switch from an in person practice to a virtual practice, you want to finally make some freedom in your life by having your own business and being in control? If so, you might love our group coaching program. So, hey, if online marketing is not for you, that's what I teach. I'm going to make it all easy for you to sell your offer to build out your product or service in a way that clients are attracted to it. It's all in the languaging Okay, guys. So until next time, Ihope you have a visionary day. Don't forget to touch base with me on Instagram or screenshot this episode. I'm always so ecstatic to see who's listening.
And I'm sending you guys tons and tons of love and good vibes and abundance your way. But don't forget about that strategy piece, really queuing up your week for success and following through on the actions that you know are going to produce results in your business. So that's it for now. And I will see you all soon. Hey, visionaries. I wanted to interrupt this podcast to actually let you know about an upcoming offering that I am launching in collaboration with professional mindset and success coach Emily Elliot, you've probably heard me talk about your 2023 Sleep. Cohort number one has been so successful. And this is the highly anticipated program because there was so much demand for it in 2022 that myself a marketing consultant and top rated marketing coach and Emily Eliot, again, who's a professional success and mindset coach, we've teamed up to actually launch another cohort of your 2023 leap.
Our first cohort, they're having smashing successes and the momentum is huge. So we've decided to launch it again in May of 2023. Between Emily and I, we have helped 1000s of individuals to grow their mindset and grow their success, and we're going to teach you the MVP model, mindset plus visibility equals more profitability.
And if you're a for profit business, this is something that is so important that you dial in both of these pillars. But don't sign up yet. First, I want to run you through a few little things to see if you're ready for your 2023 leads.
So if you want to learn from Emily how to embody the physiology of success, this has been a game changer for me personally, people have literally messaged me on Instagram, I got a voice note from my friend Mark last night. And he said, Cal's, I don't know what's going on.
But something's different about you. And I attribute this to embodying the physiology of success, which Emily is teaching me. And he's also going to teach us how to step into an entrepreneurial mindset. There are so many blocks that you might carry through from your previous corporate job that are actually keeping you stagnant. And I've recorded an entire podcast episode about this, called the three mindset blocks that were keeping me stuck. And then I step in each week over the 90 days to teach you a foolproof marketing strategy so that you can connect with unlimited clients.
That's pretty awesome, right? So I'm going to teach you how to use social media to convert followers into paid clients. I'm going to teach you how to build a simple sales and marketing funnel. I'm also going to show you how to leverage Google and SEO to get more leads to your business. This is so important, and 99% of businesses are not taking advantage of it. And you're also just going to be surrounded by the most insane entrepreneurs, we have 15 people in this cohort and my gosh, like there are tears there, there's laughter, a lot of the comments that have come through our private Slack channel, say, this is the program I didn't know I needed. I was so lonely. I was doing this with blinders on before your 2023 leap.
And it's incredible to see how these individuals are collaborating both on the calls and off. And I must say Emily and I are pretty awesome leaders of these hour and a half calls that we have each week. So if this all sounds good to you, I want you to head to Kelseyreidl.com/2023, Kelseyreidl.com/ 2023 and just pop your name and email in there. So you know about the upcoming launch. And we might even send you some special bonuses when the time comes to start enrolling.
So, again, we cannot wait to see you inside of cohort number two and back to the episode. Thanks for tuning in to this episode of visionary life. I love bringing you these conversations on a weekly basis. So it would mean so much to me. If you could help me out by rating and reviewing the show on either iTunes or Spotify. It just takes a second. And if you don't want to rate the show, you could also just take a screenshot of the episode and share it on your social media platform of choice tagging me at Kelsey Reidl.
