360 Escaping the Content Creation Rut! (Use the R.U.T. Technique)
Lost your creative spark?
I’ve got a 3-step method to get it back
Welcome back to another episode of the Visionary Life Podcast.
Today we're talking about Social Media Content Creation... and more specfically, what to do when you get into one of those pesky content creation ruts.
You know, those times when inspiration seems to have packed its bags and left town?
Yep, I've been there too!
In this episode, I’m diving into my own experiences of shaking off the cobwebs and finding that creative spark again.
I’ve discovered this cool little routine I like to call the R.U.T. method – Repeat, Uplift, Teach. It’s been a lifesaver for me in getting back on track with my social media content.
Plus, I’m sharing some thoughts on using AI tools like ChatGPT.

You're listening to the Visionary Life Podcast. I'm your host, Kelsey Reidl.
Each week I'll bring you conversations with the most visionary humans on this earth in hopes that you'll be able to absorb their wisdom, avoid their failures, and feel less alone on the roller coaster ride that is entrepreneurship.
This season, I'll be chatting with creative thinkers, masterful marketers, brick and mortar shop owners, brand builders, and people just like you who have a story to share or a vision that inspires. If I can share one quick secret with you before we get into the episode, it's that we all have a little bit of visionary inside of us. You know, that spark that nudges us to pursue our full potential in this lifetime. But perhaps somewhere along the line, it got covered up. I'm here to tell you that it's never too late to explore that inner voice and access the brilliance deep down inside of you. It's in you. It's in all of us. Let's dive in. Hey, visionaries. Welcome back to the show. I feel like I have a little tickle in my throat. My whole family, as in my husband and my son, have been coughing all week and I thought mama was in the clear, but I guess mama is not. So anyways, if my voice sounds a little bit scratchy, that's why. I mean, we're also at April 10th and it's still snowing. The weather has not taken a turn. And a friend said to me the other day, kelsey, you know it's bad when you are upset about the weather because I love winter. I really do. And I love living here in Ontario, Canada, where I live. But now that we're in April, I'm just so ready for spring. A friend invited me on a bike ride last night and I just wasn't feeling it. I'm like, the sun's going down, it's going to be one degree. I could just go on a hike or do a little workout in my home gym or even just sit in my bathtub and call it a day. I have really surrendered in this season of life to not feeling like I need to get 60 minute workouts or do daily workouts. I am definitely someone who needs to move my body daily. I find that if I'm strong in my body, I'm strong in my mind. I find that if I am not working out, I get into little mental ruts. I don't know if anyone else feels that way, but it is absolutely crucial for me to just do something active every day so that I keep Myself. Well, it's funny when you really start to know yourself and you can identify patterns and you're. You're just so clear that, like, if I miss X, Y and Z, maybe it's. If I don't take my supplements, if I don't sleep, if I don't eat healthy, if I eat too much sugar, if I hang around the wrong people, if I have a dance party every day, I'm happier. But, like, it's. It's actually a gift to get older and with each passing year, to know yourself so well or to at least be curious that you can kind of curate your days and where you devote your time so that you. You give yourself the best chance of success. Right. And so that you avoid ruts to begin with, because I don't know about you, but once I'm in a rut, it can be kind of hard to dig myself out. Um, you know, the last rut I was in, it wasn't exactly anything to do with something I did. I actually got sick with pneumonia back in February. And after, like, two weeks of being quite ill, I came out of my bubble, my bed, basically, of being inside. And I just felt like I was in a rut. I had to dig myself out. I had to write a list of things I liked. I was like, who am I? And I almost still feel like I'm kind of, like, getting back into things. So for me, like, having my communities that I'm part of. So getting together with my cycling friends and going for a ride, seeing my girlfriends and going out for a drink or meeting up at the park with the kids, going to yoga class with a friend, going out on a date night with my husband, going traveling and booking a trip, having dance parties, cooking, baking lots of sourdough bread. I wrote these lists and I was like, all right, like, life is too short to be in a rut. And this actually leads me into today's topic.
This is a very quickie episode. But I hear from all of my clients all of the time. I just feel like I'm in a rut with content creation, whether it's with Instagram, whether it's with LinkedIn, whether it's with blogging, whether it's with writing newsletters. And yes, there is this crazy tool these days called AI ChatGPT. You can literally go and say, hey, chat. Give me a hundred content ideas. I am a nutritionist who deals with acid reflux and heartburn and H. Pylori, and I want to have a content plan for these five platforms. Posting twice a day. And I want the content to be very value driven and 1 in 8 posts should have a call to action. So nowadays it's like so simple, right? But I'm still a little bit willy nilly on just relying on ChatGPT to pump out content. I honestly think it steals our creativity in a way. Yes, it can enhance. Yes, I use search or yes, I use AI every single day to search for things, to create, to write things, to help me to come up with better podcast titles so that you'll click on this, to help me to write an email headline, to edit my emails, to turn my transcripts into quality, valuable content. But I also am still like, I still want to exercise that muscle of sitting down to a blank cursor and just like writing something and me knowing what my client needs to hear from me, not outsourcing to chat. And, you know, just on that too. I, I don't have the answer around this because when we think about using ChatGPT, it's an incredible tool. It's really capable of a lot. It can get to know you, but it doesn't have a soul. It doesn't, I don't know, like, it doesn't have that unique perspective that only you have. So, yes, use it. But I've heard a lot of people lately saying, and they're like literally falling in love with their chat. It's like chat daddy or my chat or chatty. And I'm not even joking, like, I'm almost giggling as I'm saying this, but people are, are having detailed conversations and I just think we need to like step back and be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Like, can we just think for a second and not lose our own thought leadership or whatever you want to call it? Okay, Anyways, so for those of you who are not just going to chat GPT in your rut and who want to just like get inspired and learn a different system, I want to share something so simple. So to get out of your social media rut or your content creation rut, I want you to write down the letters R U T. If I'm not mistaken, that is how you spell rut. When you're in a rut, you need to go back to posting just three types of content. You need to one, repeat your top performing content. Not enough people do this and it is not a sin. If you're in a rut on LinkedIn, go check your post impressions. If you literally click post impressions on your feed, you will see from the past 30 days or 60 days or 90 days, whatever you toggle it will pull your top performing posts, look at your top performer and go rewrite in just a different format or put a different angle on it, or come at it with a different tone of voice or a different perspective because it's a new day. Repeat your top performing content. You guys, it's top performing for a reason. I have talked with people before, top level marketers who basically look through their content each year and just pull out the popular themes and tweak a little bit to make it relevant in 2025. But they're reposting the same themes over and over. So repeat. Don't be afraid to repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat. Because people probably didn't see it the first time. And we need to be reminding people not yearly what we do and our main kind of services that we offer and the problems we solve and the outcomes we deliver. You need to do this daily. Like, it's crazy the amount of people who you may have been talking about something. So maybe you're launching something right now. And I remember going back to when I was launching my very first online course, the Visionary Method, and I talked about it ad nauseam, or so I thought, probably mentioned it like 846 times across every social platform. And then I remember on the final day, I'm like, oh my gosh. Like, I really don't want to talk about this again. But I'm going to repeat one more time what's going on, what this course is, who it's for, what the price is, when the deadlines are. And I remember I had someone message me who wanted to join and they did. And they said, oh my gosh, I had no idea you were building this online course. Can you tell me more? When do I need to sign up by? And I was like, I've literally said all of this a million times. But in that moment, she heard the message, right? Like I had been saying it, but she hadn't been hearing. It wasn't the right time. It didn't land. She was not in the right headspace. And that time it cut. So we have to keep repeating, repeat what you do. Because people do not know. We make way too many assumptions that everybody knows what we do after we tell them one time, don't be afraid to repeat yourself. So that's the R in rut. The U in rut is to uplift. People come to social media to content. I've especially been feeling this. When I open my podcast app, I want to be uplifted. I'm looking for the fun, light hearted, make me laugh conversations. Girl chat. I want to listen to off the vine with Caitlin Bristow. I want to listen to the Girls of almost 30 talk about spirituality or something that's going on in their dating life. So that's one version of uplift. You can share a little behind the scenes of your day. Maybe you're taking your dog on a walk and you just saw a beautiful view of a sunset. You can share that to uplift people. There's enough crappy stuff going on in the world that people appreciate the uplift when they open their social media. Celebrate a client, celebrate yourself. If you think about how Facebook algorithms work, when you share that your brother just got married or you just had a baby or you just got back from the most gorgeous trip to Rome, you're, you're uplifting the energy, the collective energy of social media. Nobody needs, needs more fear tactics. Nobody needs to be dragging each other down. A lot of the reason people open their social media, their content apps in the first place is to read something good to increase those feel good hormones, to be entertained. So that can be part of uplifting, to be inspired. So think about what can you teach or share today that is uplifting. And you know what's so simple? If you're in a content rut, you can literally find three quotes that you like and just repost them on your Instagram page, right? That is uplifting. And then people associate you with content. They want to see content that they're hitting that heart or like button which tells the algorithm, we like this person, this creator's doing a good job. So don't be afraid to uplift people. That is the U in rut. So again, if you're in a content or a social media rut, you're going to repeat something on day one, then you're going to uplift on day two or do this all in one day. And the T is to teach, teach, educate, tell people, give them a win, share how you transform lives. So for example, recently I've been doing a lot of teaching. Whether that's in a carousel post or a LinkedIn post where I'm writing out or a podcast episode or I have actually a free training coming up inside of our mastermind. And it is all about teaching on how to start ranking in ChatGPT. So coming full circle because I know businesses want to be showing up in AI search engines. So teaching on little micro concept, give people quick wins. What can you teach today? We all have skills, we all have Knowledge that we can teach to others. That is so simple for us. Like if we had a stage of 40 people in front of us and we randomly got pulled up and the conference person was like, kelsey, I need you to speak for four minutes on any topic you want. What would you talk about? Right? You might talk about why stainless steel water bottles are way better than plastic and then sell people your stainless steel water bottle. If you're teaching, you might teach about how to open a coffee shop, even if you've never been an entrepreneur before. So maybe you're a coffee shop business coach. You might teach on how to grow your email list with zero subscribers right now. You might teach on how to balance your hormones when you are postpartum. We all have things we can teach on. They're related to the services that we sell. So teach, teach, teach. But also make sure you're repeating good content and uplifting people to kind of break that monotony of always teaching. So there you have it. That's how to get out of a social media rut. You're going to repeat, uplift and teach and do those day after day after day. So you can repeat that three type of content cycle. Maybe do that cycle twice in a week and then take one day off. And notice how you start to develop that muscle of okay, what can I repeat? This is easy. How can I uplift and share some behind the scenes? And what is a concept I want to teach on that could lead people into raising their hand to work with me? All right, so I hope that was helpful. You guys enjoy and let me know if you use the rut. Get out of your rut model and I will see you in the next episode. Hey visionary.
