Whether you're just getting started, two years into your entrepreneurial journey or 5 decades deep-in business--often the best way to grow is by thinking outside of what has already been done.

I want you to start thinking about how you can stand on the shoulders of someone who has gone and achieved what you want before you. 

Is there someone that can transport you to greater places quicker than doing it all by yourself. 

It’s not about mooching off of your friends who are very successful, it’s about finding ways you can add value to someone who has more exposure and a bigger audience than you.

In this blog, I’ll be sharing  different ways you can apply this concept in your business.


First, let’s talk about the two ways you can grow your audience as an entrepreneur:

1. You can wait on your island and try to bring all the people to you, which is probably what you are doing - and that is great but it’s slow, isolating and sometimes discouraging. 

What I mean by waiting is… 

Let’s say you are starting a service business like a Nutritionist or Parenting Coach. 

You may create a website, activate a social media page, share content then sit back and wait until a client decides to book with you.

But as you might know already, it takes time to build your platform and to grow an audience. Luckily, there’s an alternative for you.

2. You can find where your Dream Clients are already assembled, and go there

With this strategy, you are focusing on where your dream clients are already hanging.

Think about how you could partner with someone who has already gained credibility within your dream client community. There’s no right or wrong way to do this, just get creative.

Once you have identified them, it’s time to brainstorm on how you can add value to them!

This is what I call The Piggyback Principle™

This strategy will not only put you in front of a large audience but it'll also give credibility by simply adding value and showcasing your superpowers.

 

HOW TO APPLY THIS INSIDE YOUR BUSINESS

STEP 1 

The first step to finding your dream client is understanding where they hang out. Without this information, you will not be able to find the best opportunity for leveraging communities of like-minded individuals.

STEP 2

This is where you need to think about how your content can add value and offer something unique. 


This is the most crucial part, it is not a free ride, you have to look for ways that you can portray your magic.


STEP 3

Now, it’s time to reach out to the communities and influencers.


A lot of people struggle with reaching out but I promise you, it becomes easier to approach when you know your offer is full of value and can truly impact someone’s life. 


To help you get started, here some some ideas on how you can create value to the audience:

 

Can you achieve the same success without applying this strategy? Definitely. 

Will it take you longer? Potentially.

This strategy is meant to help you take your business to the next level. 

Don’t view it as “cheating” because 99% of successful brands use this method of marketing in their own business (big or small). 


Let’s use Pepsi as an example, when they relaunched their formula, they hired Beyonce to promote it, they were piggybacking off her star status.


Personally, I used this strategy with the Visionary Life Podcast as I invite people who have way more success and a larger following to me in hopes that by featuring their stories on my platform (they will promote it on their social media). 


Piggybacking off communities with larger audiences can be a great way to promote your services. By identifying and partnering with groups that you want to reach, you have the opportunity to gain new potential clients while building trust and credibility with them. 


Take the time now and make a list of prospective individuals which you would love to partner with.
