I think it goes without question that marketing is always shifting, and constantly evolving.

For that reason, what worked in marketing 20 years ago won’t necessarily work today!

  • Attention spans are shorter,

  • There’s a saturation of advertising anytime we turn on the TV or Scroll Instagram,

  • And customers have a variety of choices when it comes to where they spend their hard earned money!

Therefore, it’s vital to evolve, explore trends, expand your curiosity, and to experiment and find what works TODAY for YOUR UNIQUE BUSINESS!

In 1997 there was:

  • Lots of text (less focus on product imagery)

  • Multiple calls to action

Today, there is:

  • More focus on the visuals

  • Simple, succinct language

  • Feels like an immersive 3-D Experience

 
 

Marketing Trends & Predictions for 2024.

 

Trend # 1 - Create a Single Channel Ecosystem on Social Media

Social media used to exist as an amplification tool.

For example, you would write a blog for your website and to draw eyeballs over to your site you might create a promotional post on LinkedIn or Twitter, trying to direct clicks over to your website.

However, social media platforms got smart and they decided they didn’t want to favour content where the call to action led someone OFF the platform.

Which is why most social media platforms now have their own ecosystem where you can create content, promote your content, and then engage with readers of your content!

For example,

  • On Instagram you can now write a post for your feed, then promote it on stories and in your broadcast channel, and then engage with readers in the DM’s

This means Instagram is now a one-stop shop for creators!


Social media is not just an amplification tool anymore because every platform has grown and evolved and is now its own publishing platform. 


Another example is how you can write LinkedIn articles (as opposed to publishing on Medium.com or on your own blog). They've also created event pages that you can create LinkedIn events on (as opposed to Facebook Events or Eventbrite). 


This actually may seem like it makes our job as marketers and as creators a lot harder (you have to publish UNIQUE content on every single platform now?) but if you just pick one or two platforms and go DEEP vs. WIDE, you’re going to come out on top!


The way that I'm really diving deep on this right now is that I am building out my Instagram Ecosystem and am sharing high value content through Stories and my Broadcast Channel. And then I’m in my DM’s conversing with my followers on a deeper level. My instagram engagement has skyrocketed, my open rates on my broadcast channel are nearly 100% and I just signed a $5000 client with this strategy.

 

Trend # 2 - Social Media Has To Become Social Again (aka Give Social Media its SOUL back!)

When you log into your Instagram or TikTok account, do you get an instant feeling of Doom & Gloom?

Does the thought of needing to ‘post content 5x / week’ make you want to rip your hair out?

I hate to break it to you, but if you are still using social media purely as a marketing tool, you're probably also not seeing conversions or an increase of sales.

Too many creators are basing their content marketing decisions on the Algorithm, which is insane. 

Don't even try to figure out the algorithm! Trying to figure it out would be like trying to build a skyscraper from scratch when you're not an architect and you're not a designer.

The algorithm is based on a set of data points. It's based on billions of people's consumer behavior patterns and content consumption patterns, and it changes every week.

And, to make things even more complicated we need to remember that every Social Media platform has a different algorithm!

Instead, focus your time and energy into posting really good content that your followers will SHARE and INTERACT/ENGAGE WITH. 

  • Are followers DMing you after everything you post (that’s a great sign!). 

  • Are they liking your videos and photos (that’s a great sign!). 

  • Are they watching multiple times (that’s a great sign!)

If you are using social to connect and create value and to cultivate community, you are going to be successful on social media in 2024. 

Make social media SOCIAL, again.

 

Trend # 3 - The Health Of The Entrepreneur Is More Important Than Ever!

In 2024, an intriguing marketing trend is set to develop – an entrepreneur's health will become a determining factor in our attraction to certain brands. 

This isn't about conforming to a specific image, but rather emanating authentic energy as a representative of the business and brand you’re building!

This isn’t necessarily new, but for the past few years there’s been a growing and still-emerging shift towards paying attention to businesses and entrepreneurs who exemplify a well-balanced lifestyle, who stay true to their values, and who prioritize vitality and softer-skills in business, over hustle culture.

Your well-being matters, and will be admired by your community in 2024 and it's time we prioritize self-care and a well-balanced life, before diving off the deep end of our business goals and forgetting that other aspects of our lives are important.

Now, more than ever, it's easier to distinguish those who create from a place of depletion and exhaustion.

So what can you do to capitalize on this trend?

Discover the rituals, routines, habits, and activities that ignite your passion and bring joy to your soul – whether it's a daily plunge into cold water or finding solace in a monthly ‘CEO Day’ that involved a solo organic lunch, a hot coffee while reading a good book, or a visit to the spa.

Nurturing our well-being not only boosts us with confidence but also transforms our mindset when it comes to business, and what’s possible.

How will you take charge of your well-being and revolutionize how you show up for your business, in 2024?

 

Trend # 4 - In-Person Events And Businesses That Are Offering A Hybrid Of Online Programming And Offline Programming Are Going To Experience Bigger Success And Wins Than Businesses That Are Exclusively Online.

We are *still* craving IRL (in real life) connection post-pandemic. 

The last few years have shown us that nearly ANYONE can create and sell a digital offer, but not everyone can pull off what’s needed to gather in-person community!

I’ve had many online business owners reach out to me with concern that ‘they’re not getting clients’ or ‘engagement on social media is low’ and my first question is always ‘how are things going with building IN-PERSON community’.

  • Have you been connecting with other entrepreneurs in your area? 

  • Are there at least 5 prospective clients that live nearby to you, that you know from community networking?

  • Are you actively seeking out new opportunities to get off your computer and into the world?

  • Are you immersing yourself in real life communities that would even prompt someone to want to go Google you or check you online? 

Your business will be built outside of your front door, before you become an online sensation and never have to leave your home.

We can't just assume that building a fully online business is easy or that that's even the right path, because we are primal beings then human connection is so vital. 

For the last year, my business partner Emily and I have been selling an online group program called Leap, and it's for business owners who are looking to clarify their offer, to figure out how they're going to market that offer and price it, and to have the confidence all the way through to not quit on themselves. 

Selling that program has not been overly easy - even though it’s 100% online and can be delivered to anyone around the world!

On the flip side, when we hosted a very similar version of this course called Online Course, Complete™ (a 1 day in-person event with 20 entrepreneurs in Ontario, Canada) we had a MUCH easier time filling the program with 20 people. 

Somehow, even though the in-person event was bound to our location, it was actually a way easier sell. We ended up selling out the event.

All this to say, that I predict that in-person events are back.

People will want to invest in retreats, events, workshops, and multi-day gatherings in 2024 - rather than purely online experiences.

 

Trend # 5 - The façade of perfection and lavish lifestyles to sell products is OUT (and it’s slightly repulsive!).

Authenticity is the new luxe!

 

Be real, be you and watch your business SOAR - it’s surprisingly seductive for your community to see how GENUINE and REAL you are! 

  • You don't need the perfect branding. 

  • You don’t need to drive a Range Rover or brag about your 6-figure months.

  • You don't need the perfect website. 

  • Your hair doesn't need to look nice in order to connect with people. 

Now more than ever, we are craving connection with people who are real and being themselves.


It's a confidence that is unshakeable and undeniably magnetic!

 

Trend # 6 - Clear messaging and succinct positioning of your Business is crucial.

Your elevator pitch should be SO crisp, that anyone can explain your business to a friend. If not, time to work on communicating better!

 

If you were to ask three friends to explain what you do in five words or less, what would they say? 

The reason I'm asking this is because oftentimes we are not even explaining our product and our service well enough for our closest friends and family to understand. 

We might assume that the people closest to us actually understand what we do, but oftentimes they are the most confused. 

If your positioning and the clarity behind your offers is confusing, you are going to lose out on 99% of new business. Don’t make people GUESS what you sell and how you help!

It’s important to consider…

  • What are the unique attributes of your business & your services that you need to talk about? 

  • What is the reason somebody should care and give their attention to you?

  • Is there a trend in the industry right now that makes a lot of sense for you to capitalize on? 

  • What is the main PROBLEM that you solve?

 

Trend # 7 - Your Marketing Strategy MUST Funnel Leads To Your ‘Sales Department’.

Creating content and focusing on digital marketing alone won't bring cash into your bank account. 

In 2024, it's crucial to understand that marketing is the key to selling (awareness of your business brings you leads - which you’re then responsible to convert!), yet many online business owners and solopreneurs shy away from having meaningful sales conversations. 

Embrace the power of effective marketing strategies by ensuring that you have a Sales Process on the backend. This is the best way to ensure that you’re not only kicking ass with your Marketing, but also unlocking the potential for real financial success.

I know what you’re thinking…

“I don’t have time to wear all of the hats in my business!”

And honestly, I get it… we do a LOT as small business owners! We are creators, admin, marketers, sales people, operations managers, etc.

However, if you’re ONLY spending time marketing and generating leads (and not simultaneously selling your offers) you are missing out on a lot of revenue!

So, it’s time to lean into Authentic Sales so that you can get your product into the hands of those who need it.

Here’s an example:

At the beginning of November I was supporting a client and we built out a brand new Marketing Funnel. We had a great Top of Funnel Strategy (TOFU) and Middle of Funnel Nurture Strategy (MOFU) in place - but when it came to making the offer and selling the product (BOFU / Bottom of Funnel) my clients froze up and decided not to do it.

All their marketing efforts wasted, and $0.00 sales made from that campaign.

However, when I chatted with them next - and reviewed what happened - I quickly realized that they forgot to share (with heart and soul) about the offer that they had for their 50 warm leads!

During their next workshop, we worked on creating a solid BOFU Sales Strategy and they ended up earning $5000 in one day just with this one simple tweak!

Selling is required to be a successful business, so don't forget about using marketing strategies and trends to lead into your sales process.
