I need to get something off of my chest…

There is no ONE right way to create a social media strategy. 

Any guru, mentor or expert who tells you differently is probably lying in order to scam you out of $1000 dollars!

In today’s crowded online world, each business needs an individualized growth strategy that aligns with their goals, the attention of their audience and the growth patterns that they desire.

A winning social media strategy will look different for each business!

I hope this blog is a reminder to you that just because one business owner is having success on Instagram Reels or TikTok, doesn’t necessarily mean that those exact platforms or strategies are right for your business or audience!

In this blog post, I want to share some important considerations that you can apply to your businesses social media strategy to make it uniquely yours and wildly effective!


Let’s get into it…


1. Start by writing down “Your Why” (aka WHY are you using Social Media to grow your business?)

Do you know what it is that YOU truly want to achieve from using these platforms?? 

If not, stop reading and take the time now to write down your thoughts and to build out a clear Raison D’Etre or “Why” behind the time and energy you’re going to put into Social Media.

What is it that you truly want to achieve ?

Without this information, it’s hard to create a strategy as you don’t have direction. 

Some sample reasons why include: for brand awareness, gaining more sales, obtaining more clients, or connecting with more customers, etc.

 

2. Know who your Dream Clients are and think about where THEY spend time online so you can reach them in the right place

Part of creating a winning social media strategy is creating content that serves a specific pain point, challenge or problem. This can only be made possible when you know WHO your dream clients are!

If you need a refresher, here are a few questions to consider in identifying who you should be creating content for…

  • Describe in as much detail as possible, what the current situation of this person is... 

  • What will they *need* to know more about, to address their struggles? 

  • What can you offer them right now (as a lead magnet) to address their struggles & improve their quality of life (i.e. what is the expression of value from you)? 

  • What does a typical weekday look like for your VDC? 

  • What does a typical weekend look like for your VDC? 

  • What are things that they are irritated, annoyed or frustrated by every single weekday? 

  • What are things that they are irritated, annoyed or frustrated about every single weekend?

Answering these questions will likely give you 20+ new content ideas that speak to your dream client!

A winning social media strategy speaks to your niche, not to everyone!

 

3. Uncover Your Unique Brilliance and be unapologetic about what sets your Social Media Content apart from everyone else in your industry!

Every business has a unique differentiation when compared to their competitors - but often it goes unidentified or is ignored.

Do you know what makes your product or service different from all of those others? What is so special that sets it apart, and how can you share this with people who are interacting with your content?

If you are having difficulties identifying what your unique brilliance is, I would suggest reaching out to your friends and family and asking them “what sets you apart from”.

In a world of choice where we have SO many options, SO much noise, SO many advertisements, SO many people who are “cheaper” than you… Why should your customers choose you?

 

4. To have a winning strategy, you need to be experimental on social

The one thing that has helped me master social media marketing is understanding the need to experiment, all of the time!

There is no right way to do social media, it is an evolving platform that changes with time. If you don’t see success, it doesn't mean the end of your business; but instead that it is time to pivot and attempt a new strategy. 

It’s NEVER a failure unless you give up. 

If content isn’t gaining traction, ask your community what else they want to see and use that as a framework to create something new!

As for “posting frequency”, that is up to you but in many cases more is better (ex: 5 posts a week instead of 2 is likely better serving for your followers). 


But always ask yourself what value your posts are providing and ensure there’s purpose? If you can’t identify the value, don’t post.

 

5. Social Media Caption-Writing is an ART! It improves with time.

You want to post engaging social media content, but you don't have the time or skills to write catchy captions. 

It can be tough to come up with good captions that will get attention and increase engagement on your social media posts.

Here is a simple 3 step framework that will provide you with the ability to write catchy and engaging captions for your social media strategy.


Here are the 3 steps…

Step 1: Write a catchy headline for your post

This is a really important line that will catch someone's attention. You have the opportunity to get them interested in what you're saying, so it needs to be captivating!

Here are some examples:

  • There are 3 books that single handedly changed the way I view and manage my money

  • If I had to gift 1 finance book to every client, it would be this one

  • The day my life changed forever was

  • I cannot believe that I used to

  • 10 things you probably don’t know about me

  • I have a massive vision for the future

Another thing which helps me create a catchy first line is drafting the content first and creating the headlines afterwards :) 


Step 2: Write your content

When you're writing the meat of your post, ask yourself what does my community need to hear about from me? How am I going to deliver this information? 

If you are a service provider maybe it’s providing information, a solution or a tip that adds value to their life while building trust.


If you are a business owner, maybe it’s bringing them behind the scene and creating transparency around the creation of your product.

Nowadays, people want to be taken behind the scenes and along with the journey. 

So be REAL and authentic. 

Step 3: Call them to action

You need to provide your audience with direction.


You want them to read your content and act in-the-moment; whether it is purchasing a product, watching a video, sharing content, or even just to find out more information about your business on your website, you have to tell them what to do.

  • Join my free Facebook group

  • Check out the details of my next workshop on this blogpost

So, what’s your take away? 

Experiment. Try new things. And don’t be afraid to pivot if something isn’t working. 

The most successful businesses are always evolving their social media strategy and trying new things.
