Before we dive into the “how to” of creating your Social Media Strategy, it’s essential to remember that you don’t need massive amounts of followers in order to have a six-figure business, or to create brand awareness!

You don’t need a large following to have a community of loyal customers. You just need to show up for the ones who ARE paying attention!

Today I’m going to show you how to get started on your own Social Media Strategy in 5 simple and easy steps that will help propel you forward in creating an authentic and consistent brand for your business.

Here’s an overview of the 5 steps:

  1. Identify who you’re creating content for

  2. Understand what platforms are available and which ones will work best for you

  3. Know what to post and when to post based on your unique business goals

  4. Plan a month’s worth of content in just ONE hour (seriously it’s possible!)

  5. Questions to ask yourself every month to ensure that your social media content reflects your top priorities in your business

Step 1: Who are you creating Social Media Content for and what do THEY want to read out?

First, let’s start with the basics.

Define your dream client and know them inside & out.

Knowing who you want to help gives you a realistic view of a clients’ lifestyle, routines, and anything else we can discover about them so that we can properly position our product or service in front of them!

Let’s dive into some questions to ask yourself when considering who your Visionary Dream Client is...

  • What type of person is most drawn to your work and what problem do you solve for them?

  • What are the characteristics of the people you prefer to have as clients?

  • What do they worry about on an ongoing basis and what thoughts keep them up at night?

  • What do they not know enough about that you can educate them on?

  • What can you offer them to make their life easier?

  • What are some pain points they face?

  • What does a typical weekday look like for them? A weekend?

  • What are the things they think about every single day?

2: Understand Different Platforms and Which is Best for You

Now that you have a clearer vision of your target market, it’s time to figure out which platforms will best allow you to connect with them.

Afterall, if your dream client is giving their attention to certain platforms and not others -- you have your answer as to where you need to direct your time and energy.

There are plenty of different social media apps and platforms for you to choose from, and new ones continue to pop up every day claiming to be “the next big thing”.

Here are just a few of the main ones you may have already heard of:

  • Instagram

  • Facebook

  • Twitter

  • TikTok

  • Youtube

  • Linkedin

  • Clubhouse

The main thing to remember is that you don’t need to spread yourself thin across all the platforms available to you. The most effective approach is to pick two or three platforms, and go strong on them (be consistent).

If you aren’t sure what platforms to choose, start by diving even deeper into your Visionary Dream Client.

  • What platforms do they hang out on? (aka Where are THEY themselves posting content?)

  • Where is it that they spend their time browsing, when they’re bored? (aka When they’re waiting in line at the grocery store, which app do they scroll to kill time?)

This is arguably the most important piece of the puzzle, because you don’t want to spend time and effort creating content for a platform that your clients spend little to no time on.

Why post on Twitter if your dream client is ALL about Tiktok?

Your clients will never find you if you’re not where they can see you, so choose a couple and let’s get started!

Step 3: Know What to Post and When

Now that you’ve picked what social media platforms, it’s time to create valuable content and showcase that you have a solution to your Dream Clients problems!

Not sure what to post?

Start by browsing the platform to see what seems to work well for other businesses (where do they get the most likes, comments and shares?)

Do your homework and spend time doing Market Research, so that you can truly understand the platform.

Always ask -- what type of content will I enjoy creating, that my dream clients will love consuming? It's at the middle of those two where the magic happens.

You will also need to be realistic when considering how often you would like to be posting content.

If you’re not already actively participating on social media – expecting yourself to post daily for your business will be a rude awakening.

Maybe start with a consistent few posts a week and build from there once you get the hang of it and gain more confidence. Ask yourself “At what time of day is my audience most likely to be online?” and plan to post or engage during those times.

Step 4: Plan a Month’s Worth of Content

Okay now for the fun part – planning a month’s worth of content in just ONE hour – seriously it’s possible and I am going to show you how!

We’re setting the intention here to be a lean, mean, content planning machine. So get out your whiteboard or some paper and start brainstorming!

Take 30 minutes to write out ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that comes to mind when you think of your business, your team, your product/services, your industry, current trends, worldly events, etc.

Yes, we are BRAIN DUMPING here! What are all the possible ideas and thoughts that you can jot down surrounding the following:

  • What’s happening this week, this month

  • Current events

  • Promotions/Sales

  • New releases

  • Famous quotes

  • What you’re loving lately

  • What’s on your mind

  • Relevant news in your industry

  • Updates

  • ANYTHING else you feel will contribute to you and your brand!

Now that you’ve gotten all your thoughts and ideas out from your brain and onto a paper or whiteboard, it’s time to slot those content ideas into your content calendar in the next 30 minutes.

p.s. Need a Content Calendar template? I’ve got one for you right here!>>

Boom, you’ve successfully planned a MONTH’s worth of content. Congratulations Visionary!

Step 5: Questions to Ask Yourself

And lastly, it is always important to take time to reflect to ensure that your social media content reflects your top priorities in your business.

Here are some questions to ask yourself at the beginning of each month.

  • What are your top 3 goals in using social media strategically for your business (don’t be ashamed if making sales/money is one of your goals!)

  • What would this look like if it were easy?

  • What have I been holding back on?

  • Who the heck am I?

  • Am I clear on what I do and what problems I solve for my clients?

  • Am I clear on what my “calls to action” are?

By reflecting each month, you begin to understand yourself and your business on a deeper level. It becomes easier to see where you might be out of alignment, where some of your blocks are and how to pivot and move forward.

Now that you have…

  • Identified who your Visionary Dream Client is

  • Picked which platforms will work best for your business

  • Decided on the type of content and how frequently you’ll be posting

  • Created a month’s worth of content ideas

  • Answered the questions to ensure your social media reflects your business priorities

You have successfully created your first Social Media strategy and are well on your way to developing your brand and creating the reach and impact you desire to achieve.

Having a simple Social Media Strategy in place for your business will do wonders for your growth than having nothing at all and just trying to “wing it” all the time.

And most importantly, showing up as your authentic self with your authentic message, will attract your tribe and community above all else.

Shine as bright as you can Visionary, because anything is possible for you.
