Let’s get focused on what the future holds for you, visionary!

A lot of us are familiar with writing Resumes that reflect on where we’ve been, but what about where we’re going?

Less than 1% of people have ever written a Future-You Resume and may not even know what their future will look like or where they are headed in 5 or 10 years.

  • How are we supposed to get to our better future without some kind of plan?

  • If we don’t know our destination, can we ever start traveling the right route?

  • How do we achieve success when we don't even know what success means for us?

In this blog, I want to help you discover exactly where you want your life to go so that you can be confident about the direction you're taking.

Remember, we are truly limitless as human beings and it is often a lack of planning or belief that keeps us stuck.

When you create a ‘Future Resume’ document that captures all the goals + career milestones + new skill sets that you want to achieve in the future, it proves that you are capable of doing all of these things that you dream about.

And even though the word “resume” is usually associated with looking back into the past, inside of this resume we’re looking forward. Because looking back is just a portion of your life.

This exercise will chart your life course moving forward. Let’s get into it!

PAGE A - THE FUTURE YOU DETAILS

The first step is simply adding your first and last name as you would do on your typical resume.

Your next step is to identify your dream title. Start by imagining 10-20 years from now and consider what you would call yourself or have written on your business card.

For example, I am the Chief Visionary Officer of Visionary Incorporated. There are no wrong titles so don’t put any barriers on yourself.

Once you have determined your title it’s time to determine where in the world you will be running your business from in 2, 5, and 10 years.

Do you see yourself sitting by the ocean in a different country, or working part-time in a house near cottage country?

How do you imagine your work schedule for the future ? Do you see yourself working full-time, part-time, or three days a week? Write down what your future working hours look like..

It’s important to visualize and write your dreams out. It may sound silly and simple but it will really help to prepare for what’s to come.

Take it out of your head and put it to paper!

PART B - YOUR PROFILE

The profile section is where you can write out a blurb that describes who you are. A great way to make your bio stand out is by using descriptive adjectives in front of the noun. This would allow you to set yourself apart from 99% of the other people.

This is a concept which was taught in the TVM group coaching.

PART C - EXPERIENCE

In the experience section of a resume you would typically write about companies which you have previously worked for in the past. However, in this part, I want you to write down some dream projects and jobs you want to accomplish in the future.

For example if being an author of a book is something on your list, you would write the following:

Dream project : Author of a book

Then, under each of the bullet points, you would write your goals :

  • New York Times Best-Selling Author

  • Sell 10,000 copies

  • Etc.

Or maybe one of your dream projects is to be the host of a podcast.

Dream project : Host of a podcast

  • Top 10 on the Alternative Health Chart

  • Interview Oprah

  • Produced a weekly episode for 2 years

This is not the time to think SMALL. Write down every dream even if it feels so out of reach TODAY.

PART D - YOUR SKILLS

When you think of the experiences you have listed in the section above, what particular skill set stands out as being essential to accomplish these goals 10-20 years from now.

If being an author was one of your experiences, developing your writing skills to publish a book might be one of your skill sets.

If hosting a binge worthy podcast is on your list, what skills do you need to develop in order to create those types of episodes.

Everything is learnable.

Take some time now to identify the skill sets you require in order to make those experiences in part C come to fruition.

PART E - CONTINUED EDUCATION

Like any other resume, we are going to list your continued education.

However, instead of reflecting on your past education, it’s time to reflect forward :

  • Is there a course on your bucket list ?

  • Is there an academy you want to enroll in?

  • Is there a workshop, retreat or mastermind you want to attend?

What courses or training in the future-you want to invest in?

If you aren’t sure, scroll back to your page 1 notes and look at the skillsets you want to develop over the next 10-20 years.

This is a great place to start to help you identify those future courses or continuing education credits.

Part F - ‘AS SEEN IN’ SECTION

The last section of this resume is the “featured on or as-seen-in” section.

If you’re building a business or looking to make an impact on our world, you might be thinking about how you can gain more exposure and build a platform.

A great way to accomplish this is to be featured in publications, podcasts, youtube channels, tv, or other media channels.

So, if you could be featured anywhere and share a message with millions of people - where would this publicity appear?
