As digital-first entrepreneurs, staying ahead of the competition by keeping up with the advancements in technology is a top priority (albeit a very overwhelming one!)

And right now, that means understanding how you can leverage Artificial Intelligence Software (like ChatGPT, Jasper.ai and CastMagic etc.) to create awesome content that actually stands out, and support your business growth.

Staying on top of the latest marketing trends can be frustrating, but also very rewarding when you figure out marketing efficiencies and opportunities!

  • When social media platforms evolve (goodbye Clubhouse, hello TikTok!) we must shift our entire game plan and pivot the types of content we’re posting…

  • When Facebook/Meta decides to restrict your campaign or Facebook Ad, you need to explore alternative advertising modalities…

  • And when Artificial Intelligence becomes the talk of the town, you’ll want to leverage it but also stay true to your own voice in order to cut through the plethora of robot-created-content!

Artificial intelligence has taken off in the past few years, that’s for sure. Are you using it to support your content marketing strategy?

Whether that’s to help you:

  • Write viral TikTok Captions

  • Create a strong Title and Hook for your YouTube Videos

  • or to write entire Blog Post Outlines

A.I has SO many capabilities, but you might be wondering if there are disadvantages and downsides to incorporating more A.I. into your social media, blog or content marketing strategy?

Taking these extra steps can make all the difference in your content marketing media success, especially if you want to ensure that your AI Generated Content isn’t TOO generic and washed out (meaning, nobody will want to read it and it won’t rank well for SEO!)

Tip # 1 (for avoiding generic A.I. content)

Don’t become reliant on A.I. to do all of the creative work for you, in creating content.

Instead, use it as a tool to help you create outlines, opening hooks and bullet points that will create a more structured piece of content.

The trap that becomes too easy to fall into is simply telling ChatGPT that you want ‘a blog post about why eating kale is great’ and then it pumps out something super generic, with no experience or authority.

This type of post will NOT rank well in Google’s Algorithm!

[I explain the EEAT acronym that all Content Marketers need to know about, inside of Everyday SEO]

When you become lazy and lose your own Unique Brilliance (you know, that special thing that only YOU have as an entrepreneur) your content just ends up in the sea of generic content on Google, and it will not rank on page 1 of Google because it lacks substance and authority.

At the end of the day, A.I. means that everyone can become a content creator - but not everyone has your spark, your personality, your life experience, or your expertise and stories! Never forget that, as it’s your differentiating factor.

As you prepare your Content Marketing Strategy (what emails to write, social media captions, etc.) try using AI to complete a sentence, brainstorm bullet points, or uncover fun facts and the latest research that enhances your brainstorming session!

Tip # 2 (for avoiding generic A.I. content)

Are you trying to build an original piece of content, or are you just “creating for the sake of creating”?

Some sources suggest that depending on your goals, you should try to find a balance of approximately 50% human written content and 50% AI content if you want to ensure your content isn’t ticketed as 100% A.I. generated.

This should be a MINIMUM standard!

Personally, in creating content for my Blog, Podcast and Social Media Channels my goal is to share at least 75% original content that comes directly from my brain, and to simply enhance certain paragraphs or bits of the content with A.I.

You should decide (& commit) to a policy on how much A.I. Content you’re willing to accept, too.

You could consider:

  • No A.I. Derived Content, Ever! (0%)

  • Some A.I. Content (10-50%) but always doing a thorough revision, and adding in your own personal stories and anecdotes

  • Mostly A.I. Content (50%) knowing that it might read as very generic, but at least it helps you share your ideas without too much effort

What feels good, for you?

Tip # 3 (for avoiding generic A.I. content)

Whichever level of A.I. Support you’re using (0%, 10-50% or 50%++) keep in mind that it’s always a good idea to ensure that you’re adding in Expertise, Experiences, Authority and Trustworthiness Clues (what Google calls the EEAT acronym).

For example, when you create a piece of A.I. content, you should consider sifting through each paragraph and asking yourself where you can add stories and value that others can’t.

Consider adding in…

  1. Fun designs, graphics, or unique branding

  2. Data that you’ve observed or collected and can uniquely share

  3. Fun facts that spice up the content

  4. Videos that you record.

  5. FAQ’s that you have gathered from your community

  6. Details that enhance the reading experience

  7. Opinions and personal perspectives (this is the BIG differentiator that A.I. simply cannot mimic!)

  8. Stories from your life

  9. Quotes and Phrases

Here are a few more important questions to ask yourself BEFORE you hit Publish on a piece of A.I. Content…

  • What is something that I believe about this topic that I haven’t shared yet?

  • What are my opinions on this subject matter (In my opinion, I think…)

  • What are some client experiences that I can share to add unique data and storytelling?

  • What experience do I have, that I can talk about?

  • What gives ME the right and the authority to comment on this subject matter? Share that!

My hope is that through this blog post and these 3 tips, you can leverage the power and efficiency of A.I. Content Generation without becoming TOTALLY reliant and lazy with the outputs!

Standout content still relies on YOUR brain power, so never lose site of that!
