Instagram Reel (IG Reel) Ideas to Promote your Online Business

Instagram Reel Ideas to Promote your Online Business | The Visionary Method

Are Instagram Reels “just another trend” or are they here to stay?

My hunch?

You better start using them! 📲

I can say with the utmost confidence that IG Reels are here to stay.

They’ve already taken off much more quickly than IGTV and early adopters of IG Reels are seeing massive success when they are posting consistent, high-quality content.

Are you taking advantage of this rapid growth opportunity? I sure hope so!

Today I want to equip you with a few IG Reel ideas that you can use today to film your first (or next!) few Instagram Reels for your Business…

  1. Everyone loves a list!

For this first Instagram Reel, I want you to think about a concept that you teach to clients or students over & over again.

It might be something that you find yourself saying on a daily or weekly basis.

AKA - in my case as a Business and Marketing Coach I often talk about the importance of developing a unique selling proposition for your offer that helps you stand out from others in your industry

In this case, I might create a reel that is about “The Top 5 Things You Need to Know About Creating Your Unique Selling Proposition.

Here’s another way that I used this idea to explain a topic that I often refer to…

There are multiple times in a day that I chat with clients about ensuring that they have a “talkable” element to their brand— something like a branded t-shirt, or sending hand-written notes in the mail, or creating fun swag items like water bottles or tote bags.

Since I talk about this concept often, I decided to create an IG Reel with “Top 5 Ways to Add Swag to your Marketing Strategy”

📲In this video I share 5 ways to add Swag to your Marketing Strategy! Watch it >>

To make your own, choose a short-list (3 or 5) things that you want to share, and then make an intro + outro with the Title of your Video (what they can expect) and then a Call to Action for where to go next (a website, commenting below, sharing the video, etc.)

2. Do a Yepp / Nope “head-nod” video.

These were super trendy on TikTok 6 months ago (which in social media years is like 1 billion years ago!) and made their way to Instagram soon after

Here’s how to do a YEPP/NOPE head-nod video:

Grab the audio from someone else’s IG Reel or if you have the music feature (which I do not have access to yet!) or use a custom song (you can snag from someone else’s IG Reel) to answer 6 questions about yourself or about your services.

For example:

I filmed 6 short segments where I had pre-written 6 questions about Business Coaching (is business coaching for everyone, does it work magically, how to find out if it’s right for your goals, etc.) with either a Yes or No answer.

For each segment I nodded my head Yes or No, and then when I wrote the captions, I aligned them with each portion of my Head Nod😀.

3. Get creative with booking more discovery calls using IG Reels!

One of the latest videos that I created was a quick behind the scenes of the initial assessment that I walk all of my new clients through to understand their starting point for growing their online business.

This is a tool that many coaches do not use, and instead they rely on selling their ‘intangible’ services with no ‘tangible’ concepts to share.

This is NOT a good way to sell services.

When someone watches this IG Reel video (where I am pretending to assess my own performance), they can see that there is a structured and visible process to how I work with my Business and Marketing Coaching Clients.

This makes my “invisible” coaching services easier to understand and wrap your

4. Point in different directions (up, down, left, right, etc.) and curate the timing of the text to explain a concept or to share a quote

Start by cupping your hands in front of you, as if you’re waiting for someone to pour water on them! That will be where you share the purpose of your video.

In my case I decided to film a video with the topic “3 signs that it’s time to quit your 9-5 and start a business”

In the next segment, point left and then schedule your text. In this case, your first tip might be…

Sign #1 - You can no longer focus at your Day Job

In the next segment, point a different direction & share tip #2

Then repeat for tip #3.

Simple, concise & fun!

Don’t forget to leave your viewers with a call to action.

ex. Take the “If you want to take the should I start a business, click here”

Other tips…

  • Get a tripod! It helps when you want to film yourself hands-free without your phone flopping over

  • Script out exactly what you want to say + what the overlapping text will be, ahead of time, so that you can film your IG Reel quickly and with intent

  • Have fun with it & be yourself! People are scrolling IG to be entertained 75% of the time, so don’t take yourself too seriously

  • Take 5 minutes each day to scroll IG Reels to get inspired & choose 1 video to create yourself!

  • Play around with the Speed of each Segment (slow down your IG reel or speed it up, to create variety in your video)

  • When someone comments on your IG Reel, always comment back! Leave no comment unattended.

  • Share your Instagram Reel video to your Stories + Feed to garner the most amount of attention
