5 easy ways to grow your coaching business

Are you a business owner looking to up your game and quickly (but sustainably) grow your coaching business?

If you’re nodding your head ‘YES’ then you’re in luck!

There are plenty of easy, practical, and cost effective ways to grow your coaching business without having to spend a fortune on expensive Facebook Ads, Fancy ClickFunnels, or complicated marketing campaigns.

That stuff rarely produces results (unless implemented and monitored by experts) anyways. 

When it comes to marketing campaigns, success is often achieved through careful planning and execution (which is why hiring a Marketing Coach can be an effective strategy). And while it's true that big budgets can help carry a campaign far, there's also much to be said for campaigns that keep costs low and risks minimal. 

The beauty of low-cost, low-risk campaigns is that they allow coaches to test the waters without putting themselves into financial risk or emotional turmoil. 

By keeping your marketing strategies simple and focused, coaches can reap rewards without breaking the bank, and finally attract a steady stream of dream clients. 

So while it may be tempting to splash out on a big, flashy campaign that promotes your coaching business (ex: Paying for that $10,000 article in Forbes or Entrepreneur Magazine), it ALSO pays to remember that sometimes the simplest ideas are the most effective in growing your coaching business to 6-figures, and beyond.

The reason that we’re here is because Dave filmed a promotion video for this course 2 years ago (his company 🎥 Visionary Media offers drone videography to golf courses, and other outdoor adventure sports + outdoor weddings). 

While I’m sitting in this cozy cabin clubhouse, I’m realizing that there are so many business & life lessons hitting me in the face right now, and I love it…

For example:

  • Content Creation & Improving Website SEO:

    Costs $0.00 and can help you drive more traffic to your website and improve the likelihood that qualified clients will find you on Google, Instagram or your Social Media or Search Engine of choice

  • Word Of Mouth & Referrals:

    Getting referrals and encouraging Word Of Mouth Advertising is one of the oldest and most effective forms of marketing, because we trust our peers and like to take recommendations from friends and family. There are so many ways that we can incentivize these referrals and ensure that all of our past clients are rewarded for sharing our business with their peers!

In the remainder of this post, we’ll give you 5 awesome tips for growing your coaching business in a quick and sustainable way.

Armed with these valuable tips, you'll be able to get the word out about Your Coaching Services and start connecting with more potential clients in no time.

#1 Stop comparing yourself

Do you ever find yourself comparing your life, your success or your coaching business to other people’s life, success and coaching business?

Do you get caught up in other people’s lives, jobs, health, family, or relationship status?

If you find yourself falling down the ‘comparison’ rabbit hole way too often, I first want to remind you that you’re not the only one!

We are all guilty of comparing what we have vs. what we don’t with others, every once and a while. 

Here’s a couple of things that you can try, anytime you find yourself in Comparison Mode 👇

  • If you can’t stop scrolling Instagram, consuming TikTok or binging someone else’s content, then it’s time to turn off your phone and put it in another room for 2+ hours. 

  • Unfollow at least 25% of the people you follow on your Social Media Accounts, especially the ones whose content is no longer useful to you. This will help protect your precious energy and ensure that you’re not inundated with so much content, all of the time.

  • Once you implement A and B, remind yourself that you have something unique and important to say that is unlike any other coach, and that by bringing your most compelling content to the world you will likely attract an influx of dream clients!

#2 Show up consistently

One of the biggest contributors to my success over the past decade has been my ability to show up consistently, whether the motivation is there or not.

  • Whether that’s with my fitness routine (I don’t always want to go to Spin Class on a Thursday night, but I know that I always feel great after) 

  • Or whether it’s showing up to record 12 Seasons of the Visionary Life Podcast over the past 5 years (we have over 300 episodes in the archives!) 

Nothing good in lifes comes without effort and oftentimes, a consistent effort is what’s required of us to see the most incredible progress and forward momentum.

If you want to grow your coaching business, it’s time to make a strategic operational choice to get visible with consistency and to show up even when it’s easier not to!

Now, it doesn’t mean you have to ‘force’ it forever, but if you are in the building momentum stage - it’s crucial to practice some degree of consistency.

#3 Give 110% to your clients, no matter what! They are your biggest source of referrals.

If you are a coach working in the service industry (i.e. you offer 1:1 client services, group coaching or live programs), your business depends on delivering a remarkable client experience. Read that twice! 

Every point of contact that you have with your client, whether before or during or after a session, is VERY important and offers an opportunity for word of mouth advertising!

Just imagine…

  • When a client's mind is BLOWN on your Live Webinar, they’re likely to share some key takeaways with their friends (and then their friends want to hire you!)

  • When you help a client transform their health, relationship or business - everyone notices and will ask them “so how did you do it?”

Word of mouth marketing is the highest form of Marketing Flattery, and also an incredible way to 5x or 10x your business by ensuring that your clients are doing the promotion for you!

Your clients are paying you Top Dollar to work with you, and they expect (and deserve) the best. Give them nothing less than 110% when you’re with them!

Unfortunately, giving 90% effort is NOT good enough. Your Coaching Business will not survive long term if that’s how you show up.

#4 Use The Visionary Relationships Matrix™

Constantly spending time looking-for, and connecting with prospective clients is not only challenging, but it’s also quite time-consuming.

One of the tools I've created for my client is called The Visionary Relationship Matrix™ and it allows you to look through a microscope at all your client leads (especially the ones that are RIGHT in front of you!)

The purpose is to track your past, present and future connections in one place to make the connection and partnership process simple!

You will be tracking Dream Clients (past, present and future), Industry Peers (past, present and future) as well as Strategic Connections (past, present and future).

This will give you a bird's eye view of all the individuals in your pipeline and the strategy you need in order to build those connection points you should be having with them.

#5 Get comfortable on camera and record more live videos!

Did you know most people feel uncomfortable recording videos of themselves? So, if you feel intimidating or not gifted in this area of your Marketing, I promise YOU ARE NOT ALONE! 

The only difference is some people do it SCARED, and know that with practice it does get easier. 

Live videos are great because the Social Media Algorithms favour Video Content, and especially Live Video Content. Last time I hopped on Instagram Live, I converted a Follower into a Paying Client within 5 minutes of ending my Live Video!

Live video works so well in converting followers into paying clients because through a video your followers can feel your energy, listen to your expertise in real time (without all of the editing, added subtitles, and filters) and they can truly build that ‘know like and trust’ factor necessary to say YES to working with you.

One of the things which has helped me get comfortable on camera is following a framework to avoid the “freezing” on video or blabbing too much.

Here’s the format I use:

  1. Know your “why” before pressing record

  2. Start with a strong hook

  3. Explain the purpose of your video

  4. Establish credibility and become a figure of authority

  5. Get into the content

  6. Ask the viewer to participate

  7. Tell them what to do next
